Jaycee's POV:

The night felt like a whirlwind of colours, blending yet contrasting against one another like an abstract painting. It was a masterpiece explicating joy and heart break, tugging at your heartstrings until they snapped like dried up twigs on a dry forest floor.

On one note, I was happy to see my pack finally accepting of my new title as Alpha. The induction ceremony went quickly and to my surprise, the pack didn't have as many ill feelings towards me as they had before.

It may have been something to do with me earning the title, or perhaps risking it to begin with, however, either way I was determined not to let them down. My father made sure to keep the part about this position being temporary between us, in case I changed my mind down the track.

The pride radiating from my mother, father, Max, Ella, Ben and Ed warmed my heart. Even my grandmother and uncle Abe, his mate, and daughter Michelle came here to witness this joyous occasion. It only took a quick glance in Layla's direction, to flip the switch of emotions. The emptiness she felt, was enough to give me perspective on what was really important.

Viren. My mate. He stood there trying his best to push down the worry he felt for Coal and Layla, choosing to focus on the moment at hand for my sake. The awe and pride in his gaze every time he looked my way, was enough to take the air from my lungs. I've always preyed for a day someone would love and care for me so deeply. Someone other than my family, and now that the day has come, here I am still unable to believe it. A chance at being happy was all I ever wanted, and the Alpha title was something I never felt was mine to have.
"Ahh!" Michelle squeals loudly embracing me in a tight hug. "I can't believe your finally Alpha! How's it feel?" She asks excitedly.

"Like I have an entire packs safety and wellbeing on my shoulders, and a huge current of electricity running through my veins." I reply honestly, a nervous giggle falling from my lips. "It's like all eyes are on me now more than ever, and I'm terrified of stuffing it all up."

"You won't."

I turn to see my mate. He stood learning against a nearby tree with his thick arms crossed over his chiseled chest. For a moment I couldn't pull my eyes away. He wore a white t-shirt that didn't hide the groves of his chest and abs, and a maroon leather jacket, similar to the ones he used to wear though this one didn't have a hood.

I try to shake my head reminding my eyes that they need to look anywhere else before my mate notices me checking him out. I risk a look up into his bright blue eyes, the amusement in them matched the feelings rattling through our bond.

"I guess he knows the effect he has on us." Frost says making another layer of blush darken my already pink cheeks.

Pushing himself off the tree, Viren walks my way, turning me around so that I was facing Michelle once more. He wraps both arms around my waist, and rests his chin on my head. He took in the smaller she wolf before me, analysing the small similarities between us. We had a similar build and height, and our eyes would have looked the same had mine not been a star telling light blue and her dark brown like my uncles.

Michelle raises a brow looking between us. Her gaze curious but unsure. Her parents approach giving me a nod from a far, allowing us a chance to catch up with Michelle first. She l looks between the both of us for a few seconds, her eyes widening with realisation. "Wait! You mean to tell me you met your mate? Not even a phone call to your favourite first cousin?"
