Narrator pov. After the soccer game~

The detective boys and Agasa walked out of the stadium to go to the train station and ride the train back to Beika.

The moment they met at the train station earlier to get here, everyone noticed how Irene seemed less empty, Ayumi was the one to ask and Irene just said, "I met someone that I thought died back in America." and didn't elaborate more, saying that they needed to get to the match.

So now, the 3 real kids were talking to each other about the game before Edogawa also joined in as they talked about Higo.

Irene glanced at Haibara as she talked but didn't say anything herself.

'So she still feels a bit depressed...' she thought as Haibara the expected line about traitors not belonging anywhere.

When the kids started watching the TV on the shop display, Irene let Edogawa and Agasa talk as she gave Haibara a little glance in worry.

They then rode the crowded train and when it shook, Irene ended up bumping into Agasa's leg.

She apologized as she looked up at him and that's when he noticed her eyes but before he could question her about it, the train stopped and people started getting off.

Edogawa then found the body of the Tokyo Hooligan and told Agasa to call the emergency services before he told the station employee to stop certain people from leaving the station while also not letting this train go anywhere.

Later, Megure and the police arrived as they inspected the scene before the kids explained why there couldn't be any witnesses on the crowded train which made Megure know their group was there too.

After the employee told them how Edogawa planned to gather the suspects, Edogawa explained his reasoning like the idiot he was, Irene tried to get him to slow down and realize what he was doing but gave up, giving him a deadpan look when Takagi finally made him realize.

When he panicky used Agasa as a scapegoat and said that it was his idea, Irene facepalmed silently.

Anyway, after that, the 3 suspects were questioned.

When Irene noticed Haibara leaving and going to watch the TVs at the station, she silently went with her as they watched how Higo was doing in the match.

Edogawa then came over to talk about how Haibara related herself to Higo, as he explained something that only he knew about Higo that made them even more alike.

Haibara ended up leaving again as Edogawa solved the case and went to use Agasa to say his deduction.

Irene hesitated but decided to stay with the kids for now, since she knew Haibara would be fine.

After the culprit, Oba, confessed, he was taken to the station, and Irene decided that it was time to talk to Haibara so she went up the stairs to go to the other platform.

She found her talking to the janitor and walked over, calling out, "Haibara-san?"

The scientist turned to look at her just as they heard footsteps running over and saw Edogawa looking at the leaving train.

Irene poked him on the shoulder, before he could make a scene by shouting, and pointed at Haibara who asked, "Did you think I ran away?"

He laughed nervously before the janitor gave Haibara Mitsuhiko's radio back and she explained that she was looking for it since Mitsuhiko said that he dropped it.

 Edogawa looked relieved at that.

And then Haibara said, "Karashima-san told me. Not to run away. That running away wouldn't solve anything."

Irene smiled a bit, a bit relieved that she did remember that.

And then Haibara added, "You both will protect me, right?"

Irene nodded and said, "Yeah. I promised you to. And I never break promises." she looked away as both her friends looked at her, "So don't worry. I assure you that you will be fine with us. After all, you're our friend."

She then noticed the kids getting worried so she ended with, "That's more than enough reason for me." before she started heading back to them.

After Haibara watched Higo finally getting cheers as he scored a goal, they all rode the train to Beika, which was when Edogawa took the chance to ask her who she was talking about earlier, to which she replied that they couldn't talk right there.

Then when they arrived, Irene bid everyone farewell at the station, telling Edogawa that she'd arrange for them to meet so he'd see himself later, and rode the train to Ekoda.

Haibara might not be comfortable calling them friends yet, but that didn't matter.

A promise is a promise.
