(16) Start of school day

AN: This is right after the last chapter. I hope you enjoy it!

Narrator pov. When they reach the school~

"We're here." Irene said the moment they reached the school which got Edogawa to look at the building.

He reads the sign, "Teitan Elementary School..." before mumbling, "So that's my school's name..."

Irene took his hand and started pulling him along with her as they walked into the building, she let go of him once they were inside as they had to change their shoes at the lockers.

She helped him find his locker before they both took out their indoor shoes and put them on, placing their outdoor shoes inside their lockers and closing them.

She gestured for Edogawa to follow as they walked to class and, once they reached it, Edogawa looked up at the sign to read the class name, "1-b..."

Irene said, "Well, come on, let's go in." before she slid the door open and walked in with him following a little nervously.

Ayumi was the first to call them out, "Irene-chan, Conan-kun! Over here!"

Edogawa was, indeed, surprised once he saw the detective boys in here while following Irene to them as she greeted, "Ohayo."

The real kids replied, "Ohayo!" Haibara stayed silent though.

They looked at Edogawa who blinked before saying, "Ah, Ohayo. So we're classmates too, huh?" he looked at Irene, "That's what you meant by surprising me."

She just nodded before she noticed that the other classmates were looking at Edogawa with pity which made her ask, "Did you guys tell everyone in class?"

Haibara sighed as the real kids nodded, looking a bit sheepish as Ayumi said, "We thought it'd be better if they knew so they won't comment if Conan-kun acts weird..."

Irene replied, "Ah. Well, that is a good point." she then sat down at her seat and looked at Edogawa as she said, "You should go sit down before our sensei gets here, your seat is next to Haibara-san, you can follow her."

He nodded as Haibara sat down at her seat and he sat down beside her.

Ayumi then turned to Irene and asked, "So, any luck?"

Irene shook her head, "No. He still doesn't remember anything." which made Ayumi sigh but she didn't complain as Kobayashi finally walked in.

The teacher wrote her name on the board before she greeted, "Ohayo Minasan!" in her usual cheerful way and everyone in class returned with, "Ohayo Kobayashi-sensei!" 

Irene was sure she heard Edogawa too, which meant Kobayashi's idea to introduce herself worked.

Kobayashi then started the lesson as everyone took out their notebooks. It was math class first.

Pov switch~

Edogawa didn't take long to realize something, 'Wait, this is too easy for me... I don't even need to pay attention...'

He looked to the side to see that Haibara seemed to be the same, looking cold but also bored.

She seemed to notice his stare as she looked back at him with a raised eyebrow and asked, "What?" quietly.

He flinched back a little but decided to ask, "Etto... This feels too easy for some reason, that's not normal right?" being quiet.

Haibara seemed to relax at that as she answered, "Let's just say, we're geniuses, but we don't say anything about it and hide it so we don't get attention." 

It was an explanation that made sense, so Edogawa nodded in understanding.

But he thought 'I feel like there's more to it than that... Why? It makes sense right?'

He couldn't help the feeling though, so he went to ask, but then he heard a noise from the seats ahead and looked over.

To see that it was Ayumi who dropped her eraser that made the noise, Irene noticed and she let her borrow hers, Ayumi seemed to be thanking her with a smile to which Irene nodded back.

He seemed to suddenly not help staring after that. Forgetting all about what he just thought.

'Midorikawa-san... As always she's so kind, despite her expression...' was what he thought instead as he stared.

She was intriguing to him, sometimes she showed slight emotion, but not enough to be considered heartfelt.

Her smiles were slight, almost seeming forced, that if it weren't for the fact that she was so kind, he'd think she was faking those smiles.

He couldn't help but wonder to himself... How did a girl so kind get broken so much to look so... empty?

Haibara seemed to notice his sudden shift of attention and looked to where he was looking, before she looked surprised and raised an eyebrow at him but decided that it wasn't her business so she didn't comment and instead 'focused' on the lesson.

Well, Conan is getting interested in Irene now that he doesn't remember what he knows about her. 

The first time he stares at her during class though, makes you wonder if that's the only reason he's interested. >v>
