True Happiness (rewrite version)

A risky idea

AN: It's back to continuing this arc. This is the dog case. Hope you enjoy it!

Narrator pov. At the Kanou house~

The detective boys were invited by Kanou, Agasa's friend, to come to the house to take some stuff he was giving away.

Right now, they were waiting for Agasa and Haibara to park and come as they were surrounding a certain Shiba dog licking Ayumi which made her giggle as she called him cute.

After a while, Agasa and Haibara finally walked in through the gate. Agasa commented about how the town changed in 10 years, and a conversation started.

Arthur started growling and barking at the two which made them hold each other as Kanou went to stop the dog.

Irene went over and helped calm Arthur down as Edogawa explained the reason for the dog's sudden agitation, by then Arthur was calm again and the real kids looked at him.

Some conversation happened and Haibara said something depressing about herself considering what Arthur thought which made the real kids look at her before Ayumi started whispering, to the two boys and Irene.

Yes, Irene was included in their little plan to cheer Haibara up since the kids noticed how close they were getting.

And then someone else came in through the gate, Tsunashima Yoshio, Kanou introduced him to the group, saying he came here for the same reason they did.

They finally got inside the house and went to the living room where the stuff was, each of the real kids immediately took something.

Irene looked for something she or the others in Ekoda might like but found nothing, so she stayed quiet.

Agasa and Kanou had another conversation before the parents' dog, Doyle, came into the room just when Kanou mentioned him.

After another conversation, Tosabayashi Aki, who was suddenly in the room, joined in with a snarky comment.

When she left the room, Yoshio gave Doyle to Haibara and ran to the Japanese room to check on the clock he chose to take. Ayumi then asked Haibara to choose something to take, the real boys joining in.

Haibara had a smirk before she said she wanted Doyle, her reason being depressing as usual.

Agasa and Edogawa whispered about this and Irene told Ayumi and the others while whispering, "Ne, what about we just leave her alone? We're in a house with dogs and she likes animals, they might cheer her up without us doing anything."

The kids looked at each other but decided to trust Irene's judgment so they nodded.

Arthur then pulled Kanou to the entrance to meet Hasuki Shino and her dog Christie who she let loose to play with Arthur.

After some conversation, the chime of the clock made Doyle run off which made everyone confused until Kanou explained that it was Doyle's snack time and they all went with him to the kitchen.

When they came to the Japanese room, they saw that Doyle wasn't there and Agasa suggested splitting up to look for him since it would be bad if he got stuck.

They all did but Irene passed by the living room door, watching Yoshio before Arthur and Christie started barking which made everyone go outside to see what was wrong then noticed the incinerator that was smoking and Edogawa found the dog collar inside.

When Kanou started freaking out since it was Doyle's collar, Irene quietly went back inside and found Doyle in the stereo, already asleep as he ate the cheese on the plate.

She picked him up gently and went back outside just when Edogawa said, "In any case, why don't we search for Doyle again?"

Irene interrupted, "No need, I found him."

Everyone immediately turned to her to see her carrying a sleeping Doyle, the kids were all happy and Kanou as well as Irene handed the dog to him.

When Edogawa asked, "Where and how did you find him?"

Irene explained, "While we were searching earlier, I checked on Yoshio-san and Aki-san in the living room, and noticed that Yoshio-san was acting weird while looking around the stereo as if he was taking things out of it"

"When you found the collar, I didn't want to believe Doyle died so I decided to check there and found him sleeping inside the right speaker with an empty plate that smells like cheese."

With her explanation done, everyone looked at Yoshio immediately in suspicion.

Yoshio tried to run off, pushing past Kanou but was still stopped by Arthur and Christie which made him give up.

He admitted it, explaining why and how he did it and that the jewels on the collar were hidden in the clock.

After hearing how pitiful and genuinely upset Yoshio sounded while talking about his dogs possibly dying because he doesn't have enough money to take care of them, Kanou let him have the jewels which made Yoshio cry while begging for forgiveness.

The only thing left was Hasuki's shoes in the backyard, but after Irene got Kanou to mention what Arthur learned about shoes, she looked at Edogawa and he smiled before he told everyone to go to the entrance as Irene had already returned the shoes there.

They caught Arthur in the act and after Kanou scared him, he ran to hide behind Haibara and Irene before the conversation happened where Edogawa explained Arthur's motives.

After understanding, Hasuki told Arthur that he didn't need to worry because she and Christie were going with him and Kanou to London, Kanou realized what she meant.

After finding out, Agasa was the first to congratulate their engagement, the real kids joining in.

And then Haibara finally smiled while petting and talking to Arthur.

Irene smiled slightly as the real kids cheered and explained to Haibara what they were doing and Ayumi said, "Irene-chan did say that Arthur and the dogs might cheer you up and she was right!"

Haibara looked at Irene who just waved it off as she got an idea.

'You know... Maybe... I can make Vermouth more of an ally...'

She knew that this was a risky idea.

But it was a risky idea that could work.

AN: Done! Hope you guys liked it!

Yep, Irene just found Doyle faster and ended that commotion earlier.

But now she has a really risky idea to plan out.
