Narrator pov. Continuing~

The girls ran a bit more before they climbed a hill and Irene used the binoculars the hotel staff lent each of the detective boys, except Haibara who was asleep then, to see that Edogawa and the others were already in the forest with the hunters.

She let Haibara look to see what she already knew, having told her that she dropped her badge so Edogawa would find it, but also that the corpse was hidden so he'd only see blood, and she took out a bag of candy canes.

'Good thing Nakamori-san was so passionate about packing my snacks.' she thought to herself as they both nodded at each other and continued to walk, Irene leaving a small piece of candy cane every few steps they took to indicate where they went.

Pov switch~

Edogawa and the others called out for the missing girls before Ayumi found another candy cane on the ground by a path.

Agasa figured out what they were for, and then Edogawa quietly told the inventor to call the police while explaining.

"Ma, since Haibara is with Karashima they should be alright. But it's better to be careful." he added still whispering before there was a rustling from the bushes.

Back with the girls, they saw the hunters fire their guns at the rabbit that was running through the bushes and looked at each other before they continued walking, having noticed the cub from earlier following them.

 Except, Irene stopped a few steps later and turned to Haibara who gave her a confused look before she said, "You know, even without future knowledge, I can tell you're injured. Let's rest somewhere so I can treat it before it gets worse."

Haibara blinked in surprise but didn't have time to protest as Irene pulled her gently by the hand to rest by a tree.

"Treat it? Do you have a bandage?" Haibara asked in confusion, and Irene put down her backpack as she gently and slowly took Haibara's sock off her injured ankle to see that it was swollen and purple.

Ah, must've only decided to point it out just a bit before Haibara collapsed, oh well.

She took out her drawing/medical kit and answered, "Yeah, I do." she pressed the button to turn the kit into a medical kit before opening it.

Haibara seemed surprised, as she had never seen Irene use this kit before, and asked, "Did Hakase make that?"

Irene just nodded, "Yeah, I thought it would help whenever someone needs treatment but I didn't want to worry about being suspicious of having a medical kit on me so Hakase made me the drawing-to-medical kit."

She took out a bandage and started to easily and expertly wrap it around Haibara's swollen foot, which Haibara seemed impressed about.

She even said, "You're good at treating injuries."

Irene just replied, "Well, I did help my parents treat injured kids a lot. It's natural." her voice mostly neutral.

But there was a hint of an undertone there that Haibara wouldn't understand yet as Irene added, "It's how I knew you were hiding an injury but I waited for you to be comfortable enough to say something but you took too long."

"I see," Haibara said regardless as Irene finished tying the knot up and then took Haibara's shoe and sock, placed them in a plastic bag she had in her medical kit to use as makeshift bandages, placed the bag in her backpack before closing the kit and placing it in there too, then started to help Haibara up.

"Well, we should keep moving since it's dangerous to stay in one area for too long, and I already have a way to contact Kudo-kun to tell him what's going on." Irene said as she pulled Haibara's arm over her shoulder to help her walk.

Haibara would later realize that the undertone was Irene reliving her past with the orphanage a bit, but not now.

Right now, Irene would keep taking care of Haibara and helping her out of danger just like in the Haido City hotel.

After all, they were stuck together for now, until they meet back up with the others.

AN: Done! Hope you guys liked it!

So Aoko packed Irene some candy canes as snacks, isn't that sweet? Especially since Irene can use those better than chips as she can break them into smaller pieces to make more.

Irene even treated Ai's injury and ended up finally revealing a bit of her past to her, even if Ai doesn't know enough yet to know that the orphanage is gone-

And now they're walking with Ai letting Irene help her because of her foot, without complaining or anything. That's good.
