Sheng Shi Jie dug the ancient ruin buried in the sands. However, they saw nothing in there, not even a shadow. He was so angry when he thought someone got their hands on his soul fragment.

There was supposed to be a guardian beast overseeing it but he saw none and lost all traces of it. how could he have known that the little white sand snake has long formed a contract with a human?

It has been sleeping in the buried ruins for thousands of years since it was just an egg, although it was a thousand years old, it's mentally a child. It only knows to protect that soul orb according to its inheritance memory, after eating those people it then forgot its purpose and leave that place.

It thought simply that as long as it swallowed the soul orb safely then it was doing its job right.

Sheng Shi Jie was sulky, he wants to quickly recover his memory as it made him curious. Although his subordinates told him things about his past it just made him feel skeptical, as far as he knows he wasn't exceptionally fond of women.

"milord, should we go to cloud river city? It's the nearest place here and I also noticed a lot of people are heading there. Perhaps the person who took your soul fragment is also there" Sheng Ai suggested as she tilted her head thoughtfully. She acts more like a puppet than the puppets, she doesn't have any expression or visible feelings at all. She only has loyalty to her master, aside from that she's dead inside, devoid of human feelings so she appeared rather unfeeling.

The others were busy in the divine region, she was the only one available so she was tasked to follow Sheng Shi Jie. She would only act if her master is in danger or if Sheng Shi Jie told her to do so, as for anything else she could be careless. Nothing could move her nor spark her interest.

...

Sheng Shi Jie is just drinking tea while in deep thought looking at the lively street outside the window when a line of carriages passes by. He was stunned when he saw a familiar face inside one of the carriages looking outside the window behind the veil, giving her a mysterious air.

He was stunned as the tea cup froze an inch away from his lips his gaze followed the carriage intently.  Yu Yue could feel a burning gaze so she was startled, she looks around but saw no one looking at her in particular. The burning gaze makes her feel odd, she shrugged that feeling away when there was no tinged of malice in it.

"what's wrong?" Yu Hua noticed her and furrowed her brows.

"It's nothing second sister, maybe I'm just tired of the journey. Let's go to the inn directly" she replied briefly.

"Okay, if you say so." Yu Hua said after ascertaining that she was really fine and told the senior disciples to do as Yu Yue said.

They book the entire inn and rest, there are still about two days before the sect exchange. Their delegates didn't exit the inn after that, they try to avoid public appearances as something untoward might happen. They just planned to relax within these two days.
