Tommy POV

Walking into school, I couldn't stop biting my nails. I was excited to see my friends, but that little voice wouldn't stop chipping away. Deep down I had a horrible feeling that Techno was right.

After putting my bag away, I headed towards my friends' meeting spot. It was at one of their lockers. We would always talk before making our way to our separate classes. Navigating my way through the hallway, I was grateful to spot them. I waved at one of my best friends, who didn't seem to see me. What confused me was that he was looking my way.

I shrugged the question off, pushing my way into the group. "Hey guys." I yawned, not noticing the exchange of looks between the group.

They didn't greet me back or look the least bit concerned. Did I do something wrong. One of my friends, Josh, stepped towards me, his hand outstretched. "Homework?" His fingers were desperate to grasp the precious essays I had spent all night working on.

I gulped, running a hand through my hair. "Um... I actually didn't finish them."

The six of them whipped towards me, like I had said some profound insult. I couldn't help but shrink back. Had they always looked this intimating?

"What do you mean, you didn't finish them?" Josh crossed his arms, looking down on me. "We gave you the entire night to work on them."

My teeth dug into my lip, inviting the bitter taste of blood. Techno's voice danced in my head, reminding me of what he said. He couldn't be right, could he? I shook my head, "I-I've barely gotten any sleep all week and-"

"Well what are we supposed to do?" another teen, Brock, exclaimed.

Josh looked back at me, a strange look of panic spreading through his face. "You said you would do us a favor Tommy. You can't just say no and not do it!" he barked, forcing me to take a step back.

"B-but I tried, really I did." I stuttered, my eyes drifting towards a possible escape. Was I really not allowed to say no? My heart began to pound as I realized Techno was right. They just wanted the easy favor. "And you haven't written one essay all year." I said quietly, the realization hitting me straight in the gut.

"Excuse me?" Josh pushed me backwards. "You were supposed to write our essays. That's all you're good for." He grabbed me by the collar. Panic spread through me like a virus, that voice screaming in my head. How could I be so stupid? Of course Techno was right, when wasn't he?

I opened my mouth to reply when a sudden wave of dizziness struck. I blinked a few times, somewhat clearing my blurred vision. That's when I heard a familiar voice.

"Is there a problem here?"

Turning towards my defender, I was surprised to see Dream, the most popular jock in the entire school. The blonde glared at Josh, grabbing him by the arm and forcing him to release me. I stumbled without the support, falling into comfortable arms. Looking up, I found it was Sapnap who caught me.

Dream and a few of his other friends began cornering who I thought were my friends. Sapnap focused on me, worry sparking as he studied me. "Dude, when was the last time you slept? You literally look like death."

I thought for a minute, trying to count the amount of hours I had gotten that week. "Like Wednesday night?" I offered, my head slumping onto his shoulder.

"It's Friday!" he exclaimed, his eyes wide at the sudden news. He gently brought me to the ground, taking off his jacket and wrapping it around me. "I'm going to take you to the nurse's office, alright? Then we'll get you home."

I looked up at him, fragments of questions running through my mind. "Why'd you save me?"

Sapnap carefully picked me up, making sure I was secure in his arms before he began walking. "We've been keeping an eye on you lately. Those supposed friends of you are bad news." he explained quickly.

There were shouts from behind us, but the older paid no mind. His biggest concern was me. I yawned again, trying to fight the sleep that was calling me. "Thank you..." I mumbled, struggling more and more.

"Sleep Toms, I'll keep you safe." Sapnap promised, our destination in sight.

And he kept his word.
