Tommy POV
Things never really got better. Even after the funeral. Tommy tried to move on, like he had with his parents. He tried to stop expecting his brother to be there. He stopped waiting for him to come home. He stopped playing video games. He even stopped posting Youtube videos all together.
Techno's room became like a tomb, a reminder of what once was. To Tommy, the room was completely off limits. Even just opening the door was too much. He just didn't want to think about it. All the sickness and pain and grief... He just couldn't do it.
Everything changed when he left. Suddenly Tommy had to look after himself. Make him own meals, set his own schedule. School became the worst change of all. Tommy couldn't threaten his bullies with the blood god anymore. Bruises decorated his skin more often than not. His grades began to plumet. With no one to help him with homework and no one to talk to, he just didn't see the point anymore. Even if he was smart enough, it didn't matter anymore.
Money seemed to be the only thing he didn't worry about. Thanks to Youtube, he had enough money to live off of. Techno's savings saw to that, money that Tommy didn't even know about. Even after his last breath, Techno was still looking after him.
As for Youtube, it became a thing of the past. Explaining everything to the Internet proved to be too difficult for Tommy. So he settled for simply disappearing off the platform. People didn't question it, probably figuring it was one of Techno's silent breaks. Tommy didn't have the heart to tell them it wasn't.
Unfortunately there were two people who were not willing to accept that answer. Phil and Wilbur messaged Tommy every day, demanding their return. Wilbur tried everything from spamming to begging. Phil attempted to use his "dad" mode, but even that didn't work. Tommy never responded. The blonde did commend them for their determination. But he couldn't break the news to them, it would break his heart.
The only thing that seemed to bring Tommy comfort was his nightly visits. Just before sunset each day, the blonde would visit his big brother. Sitting beside his grave, he would tell Techno everything. All his complaints and excitements. He never kept anything from his hero. Sometimes he was there for a few minutes, other times it was hours. Only one thing remained consistent. Each time he said goodbye, he led with the same three words.
"Love you Tech."
The silence brought both comfort and grief. But he knew he could always come back. And that made it all worth it.
Tommy figured he would always be alone. After all, who could ever replace his big brother? But Techno had other plans.
One of his nightly visits changed everything. He had spoken those same three words, expecting the silence to echo back at him. But this time it didn't.
"Tommy?" the blonde froze, his blood running on ice. He couldn't help but think back to his bullies. He had been so sure that he hadn't been followed. How could he be so foolish? Slowly, he turned to face the strangers. There were two of them, thankfully not sharing the familiar face of his tormentors. "Toms?" the older man spoke, stepping forward.
But even if Tommy recongized the voices, all he could see was their unfamiliar faces. Putting his hands up in defense, he yelled, "Don't hurt me!"
The two staggered back, exchanging a look of worry and confusion. The brunette knelt down, holding his hands up in surrender. "Tommy, it's us."
Keeping his arms up in defense, he studied the figures. "Who-" But then he stopped, his brain finally clicking. Green and yellow... A green bucket hat... A yellow sweater... His eyes widened. Of course they looked just like their Minecraft characters. "Phil? Wilbur?" he whispered in disbelief.
Wilbur reached out for him, desperately wanting to provide the comfort he needed. That's the only invitation the boy needed to rush into his arms. Clinging to the older for dear life, he felt safe for the first time. Wilbur rubbed his back as the boy sobbed. "Let it all out Toms, I've got you." he murmured.
And he did. All the pain he bottled up since the funeral. All the anxity and fear from being alone. All the grief he felt when he remembered. For the first time since the funeral, he realized he wasn't alone.
They stood there for a long time, neither wanting to leave the other.
Tommy was the first to pull away, the confusion finally overtaking his emotions. "What are you guys doing here? How did you even know where we lived?"
Phil gave a sad smile. "Did you really think Techno was going to leave you on your own?"
"He told you?"
The man nodded, gently touching the grave beside him. "He told us the night he found out. He was optimitic of course, but he also knew the risks." Phil met Tommy's eyes. "He wanted to make sure you had someone."
Tommy swallowed, the realization striking him. "What are you saying?"
Wilbur grinned down at him, "We want you to come live with us."
Tommy stared at him, a million thoughts racing through his head. Live with them? He had always fantasized the idea. To have the four of them actually be a family, people who looked out for each other. But without him... it felt so wrong. Wiping away a tear, he shook his head. "I can't leave him."
Phil nodded in understanding, "We can return anytime you want."
"But it's expensive-"
"Don't worry about that." he reassured. "The last thing we want to do is take you away from your brother."
Tommy looked back towards the stone, reading his brother's name once more. Chuckling, he knew his brother. "I'm assuming I can't say no to your offer?"
"Nope." Wilbur wrapped an arm around him, ruffling his hair. "Tech made us swear we would look after you. And the last thing we want is to be haunted by Techno."
Tommy sighed, surprised to find relief flood into his veins. Pulling out of Wilbur's grip, he realized he would never be alone again. He actually had a second chance at family. A smile found its way onto his face. "Okay."
The older two grinned, their faces lighting up at the idea.
"But let me say goodbye first."
Phil nodded, grabbing Wilbur's arm and dragging him away. They knew this was a moment Tommy needed.
The blonde turned back towards the grave, running his thumb along the writing. He took a deep breath, wiping the tears away. "Thanks Tech, thanks for looking out for me."
Then, turning on his heel, he followed his new family out of the graveyard and away from his past.
Techno smiled from above, knowing his little brother was in good hands.
