Ranboo POV
Ranboo slowly opened his window, trying his best to avoid the squeaking as much as he could. Unfortunately that only seemed to make them louder. He paused, sighing in relief when the window was finally opened just enough to where he could sneak out.
"Where are you going?"
He jumped, whipping around to see Niki. "Oh hey Niki..." he waved awkwardly. He had been so focused on the window, he hadn't even heard the door open.
"Don't 'hey Niki' me." his sister stepped into the room, her expression unreadable. "Where are you going at-" she glanced towards his alarm clock. "-two in the morning?!"
"Um..." he began, trying to think of some excuse.
"Are you going out to smoke again?" her eyes narrowed.
He gulped, quickly shaking his head. "No... I just-"
"I would hate to tell our mother that her perfect son was sneaking out at two in the morning on a school night..." she threatened, daring him to speak one word of a lie.
Ranboo finally gave in. "I was just going to meet some friends." he confessed, keeping the rest to himself. It was the truth... well most of it anyway. "I've been worried about them lately."
"That wouldn't happen to be Tommy and Tubbo... would it?" she raised an eyebrow. She already knew the answer, she just wanted him to admit it.
Ranboo sighed, wishing his sister wasn't like this. Did she have to know everything? He reluctantly nodded, still hoping for some kind of compromise. "Please don't tell anyone Niki. I really need to make sure Tommy is okay... He hasn't been responding to anything and I'm really worried." he begged, biting his lip.
Niki watched him carefully, seemingly having her own internal battle. "Why don't you just talk to Wilbur or Techno? Do you really have to sneak out?" she suggested.
"I really just have to talk to Tommy." he explained, trying to make her understand. "Please? It's really important..." He knew his sister had a soft spot for him. He only hoped she would just let him go.
Niki sighed, admitting defeat. "Fine, but I want your cigarettes." She held out her hand expectedly.
Ranboo groaned, but he knew he wasn't going to win that. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out the pack, pausing. "Niki..."
"Now."
Rolling his eyes, he handed the packet to her. "Can I go now?" he asked impatiently.
"Just be back before sunrise, alright? And don't you dare get anymore cigarettes. We're trying to break your habit, not make it worse." Niki warned, walking towards the door. As much as she hated the idea of her little brother sneaking out in the middle of the night, she knew he had good intentions.
Ranboo climbed halfway through the window before pausing. He turned back, calling out to his sister before she left. "If I'm not back, you'll cover for me, right?"
Niki stopped, rolling her eyes dramatically. "I'll think about it. Just be back on time!" She left the room without another word, closing the door behind her.
Ranboo shook his head fondly. As much as he hated her sometimes, he knew she was just looking out for him. Climbing out of the window, he carefully made his way to the ground. As soon as he hit the ground, he paused, listening carefully. When silence echoed back, he ran off towards their meeting spot.
He could only pray Tommy was there. He had to be.
He just had to.
