Tommy POV

Another page flipped as Tommy glanced towards the door once more. Searching for the hint of a newcomer, he shook his head. The blonde buried his head back into his book. He had been waiting for nearly two hours. Every few pages he would look up towards the door in the hopes that his brother would be there.

His brother worked long hours at a college nearby, pouring all his time into teaching students english. He worked hard to provide for his little brother and Tommy knew that. That was Tommy had to remind himself when he needed help on his homework and Techno wasn't there. That was what he had to tell himself when dinner still hadn't been made in the late hours of the night. Techno was trying his best to provide a life Tommy. A life that he, himself, had never really had.

They had once had two loving parents. A mother and a father who would move Heaven and Earth for them. That was until money started to get tight. Their father lost his job and struggled to find a new one. Their mother was forced to change into a full-time job awaiting her husband's return to work. The problem was that their father seemed to lose all motivation for working. Having lost his dream job as an attorney, he didn't really see the point in trying at anything else. He struggled to cope with his own emotions.

Alchol was his solution. He spent his nights in the bar, lying to their mother about being at his new job. They all believed him. But all of their fantasies were cut short the moment he brought a woman home. Drunk and broke, he didn't even try to stop her. All Tommy could remember from that night was the heartbreaking screams of his mother. Here she was, trying to provide for all of them. While he was screwing around with no intentions of helping any of them.

In all her grief she left without thinking twice. She couldn't handle this family anymore. Not that Tommy really blamed her, he would have left at the first chance too. But she didn't just leave her husband, she left her sons too.

For days they didn't see their father. Techno brought Tommy to his friend's house for the time being. The younger barely knew what was happening. To him it was just a long sleepover with his best friend. He didn't realize how serious it was until one night Techno came home with a black eye. That was the moment they decided to live on their own. If their parents weren't going to help them, then they didn't need them.

From there Techno got a job, saving up so they could live on their own. His friend promised that the door to his house was always open. But Techno hated taking advantage of that. With some money in one hand and his brother in his other, they started their own life.

It had been almost four years since then, and Tommy still waited for his brother to come home every night. It wasn't to bug him for money or complain about their circumstances. It was to hang out with him. They had a special hobby that connected them both. Video games.

It was one of the first things Techno saved up for. The computer was barely functional, with six keys missing and a crack in the screen. All that mattered was it ran Minecraft. Techno let Tommy play it first. That was the first time Tommy had smiled in months. Of course, he was terrible at the game, as any 12-year-old would be. But that didn't discredit the laughs they shared.

Tommy was now sixteen, and he had become much more skilled at the game. But the older always managed to beat him. In fact, Techno had become so good that he had started a Youtube channel. Tommy had constantly been badgering him about it, always telling him how good he was. And it would give them the thing they never had enough of, money.

The creak of the door made Tommy grin. Tossing his book aside, he jumped up to greet his brother. "Hey Tech!" he exclaimed. The tired pinkette seemed to light up at the sight of him. Tackling him in a hug, he grinned up at him.

"What have you been up to?" Techno raised an eyebrow. His voice was raspy, like he had been using it all day.

Tommy shrugged, keeping his feet planted to the ground. "Not much. I've just been waiting for you."

Techno glanced towards the clock above the couch, sighing. "Sorry Toms, I meant to be home sooner. I'm swamped with essays to grade." He pulled out of the hug, taking off his coat and shoes.

"I could always help you grade them." Tommy offered, following Techno towards the cramp kitchen.

Techno laughed, "We both know you would have too much fun with that."

"But it would help you out!"

"I'd like to keep my job, thank you."

Techno took out a small pot, pouring some water in it. "Are you good with mac and cheese for dinner?"

"Hell yeah!" Tommy exclaimed, rushing towards the cabinet that hid the boxes of macroni and cheese.

Techno shook his head, trying to hide the smile on his face. Turning the heat up, he turned towards the younger. "So what's the plan for tonight? What are we going to build? Another tower?"

"Are you making fun of me?" Tommy asked in a dead serious voice.

But Techno could see right through it. "I would never do something like that." Sarcasm laced through his voice, nearly becoming his tone.

Tommy rolled his eyes, "For your information, towers are a way of life. It's not my fault your not smart enough to understand it."

"Okay mud eater."

"Pig in a crown."

"Child."

"Orphan killer."

The two brothers burst into laughter at that. That was how most of their conversations went.  Bickering before falling into uncontrollable giggling. It's probably why they got along so well.

Once their dinner was done they moved to the old computer. Tommy sat beside Techno, snuggled up beside him. Techno threw his pig blanket over him, pulling him even closer. He set up his microphone before launching Minecraft.

Clicking on Multiplayer, Techno joined a server. Tommy barely remembered anything after that. Recordings always went by really quickly. There was just something so memorizing about the way that Techno played. Arrogant and clever, he managed to win every game he played.

Techno finished the recording quickly, saving the editing for another time. Then it was Tommy's turn to play. They quickly jumped on their world "BedrockBros". This time it was Techno's turn to sit back and laugh at his little brother's antics.

The brothers loved these moments more than anything. The moments where money didn't matter. All that mattered was their love of Minecraft.
