Techno POV
His eyes widened on the empty bed. Before he could even form the panic he felt into words, Wilbur interrupted him. "He's in surgery," the brunette stood up to meet him.
Techno let out a breath of air that he didn't realize he was holding. Stepping forward quickly, he embraced Wilbur in a tight hug. The man was surprised at the sudden gesture. After all, Techno was never one for physical contact. But Wilbur quickly hugged back, smiling slightly. "I was afraid I wouldn't make it in time."
Wilbur paused at that, immediately understanding what he was referring to. Shaking his head, he pulled out of the hug. "Tommy will be fine," But his eyes were clouded with doubt.
The door opened behind them, allowing another blonde to enter. As soon as Phil meet eyes with Techno, he rushed forward to hug him. Phil didn't hesitate like Wilbur, instead he smiled and hugged the pinkette back. Resting a hand on the other's shoulder, Phil questioned, "How was your flight? I know you're not big into flying."
Techno shrugged, "I would have liked it to fly faster."
The door opened again and two more people shuffled into the room. Techno didn't recognize them as quickly as he did the other two, but he could easily see the resemblance. Tommy was the exact reflection of his father, from the blonde hair to the face shape. But he had his mother's bright blue eyes. The two parents, immediately smiled upon seeing Techno. They knew how close the Techno was to their son.
"Thank you so much for coming, Techno," Fatherinnit shook hands with him.
Motherinnit was a bit more emotional, hugging Techno without another thought. "Tommy will be so happy to see you, Techno! You wouldn't believe how many times he's tried to fly out to see you over the years."
Techno smiled, politely stepping back. He nodded, "I wish I could be here in better circumstances."
The three of them continued to talk, attempting to fill the empty space. But Techno could hardly pay attention. He just couldn't tear his eyes away from the cold bed. He couldn't lose Tommy, he just couldn't.
A soft knock on the door forced the conversation out of the room. Everyone turned to the doctor as soon as he entered the room. Immediately there was a conflicting message in his eyes.
The man took a deep breath, first turning to Tommy's parents. "We just got his test results back-"
"You know what's wrong with him?" Tommy's mom swallowed, quickly wiping her glassy eyes away.
A sinking feeling began to pool in Techno's chest. "Yes, the seizures are a result of a brain tumor."
Everyone froze at the words.
"A-a brain tumor?" Wilbur repeated, his eyes wide. "But... but he'll be okay, right? You can still save him."
Techno hated the way he paused.
"We are going to try to remove it. But... you should know there are a lot of risks involved," his voice grew softer. Techno hated that. "Complications can happen-"
"Is the surgery even possible?" Phil stepped forward, weighing the pros and cons. "Maybe it would be better if-"
"If there's any chance at a longer life for Tommy, then we need to take it," Techno interrupted. He couldn't help but glare at Phil. "That's what Tommy would want."
"But if he can live a short life with no suffering, then maybe that's better." Techno could see Phil's heart break at his own words. This wasn't the first time Phil had seen this. Only a few years ago, the same thing had happened to Kristin. Immediately they had followed through with the procedure. And that was the last time Phil had ever seen his wife alive. Living through that, he couldn't help but carry the guilt of the decision.
