Never Said Goodbye (Tommy angst)(2/?)

Sam POV

Tommyinnit fell from a high place

Sam froze as he read those words. No... this had to be a prank. Tommy couldn't be dead, it wasn't possible. He slowly backed up, finding a seat beside the crafting table. He ran a hand over his face, ignoring the tears as they fell.

"Sam!" a voice screamed out his name, full of emotion. He barely looked up as the footsteps approached him, followed by a collection of sobs. "Sam did you-"

"How could I miss it?" he said bitterly, his eyes never leaving the cobblestone beneath his feet. He felt like the life had been sucked out of him.

Puffy knelt in front of him, forcing him to meet her teary eyes. She gently cupped his cheek, wishing to provide the comfort they both needed. "Sam..." she began. He leaned forward, wrapping his arms around her. Immediately she hugged back, sobbing into his shoulder. "He's really gone..." she cried, gasping.

Sam nodded, not really knowing what else he could do. He couldn't change the present or the past. He could barely change the future. He held his friend tighter, whispering reassurances.

"He said he was getting better... he-" she sobbed again, gripping his shirt tighter. "How could we lose him?" The question was something they had both been attempting to process. How could they lose the boy they loved so much? How could he not know how much he meant to them?

"I don't know." he whispered, feeling as his tears quickened. "I truly thought he was telling the truth." he admitted, hating the guilt that pooled into his words. They should have done something. They should have tried to help him sooner. He just didn't want to admit the truth. That it was his choice and they tried their best to help him.

They stood there for a few more minutes before reluctantly pulling away. They wiped away their tears, taking a deep breath.

Puffy swallowed, allowing one more tear to fall. 

"We never even got to say goodbye."
