Tommy POV
Tommy smiled widely at the destruction before him. The new L'manberg had been blown to smithereens. Smoke clouded the sky, making the evening look like a quicker night. The buildings and houses were now gravesites, only mere images of what they once were. And for once in his life, Tommy didn't care.
He didn't care that he wasn't the hero. He didn't mind being the villain. Destroying the country he had once loved had no effect on him. Because why should he care about the country that exiled him? The country that threw him out with no second thought.
The blonde smiled, Dream would be proud him. That's all that really mattered.
A sudden voice came from behind him. It was so soft, he was surprised he could even understand the words they spoke.
"Tommy... is that really you?"
Tommy froze, a part of his brain registering the voice instantly. After all, how could you forget your brother's voice? The same brother he had sacrificed everything for and followed until the end. The same brother who had let him down.
Sighing, he slowly turned around, a small part of him desperate to see the brother he had longed for, for so long. "Wilbur." he spoke, the emotion unreadable. He studied the man in front of him, surprised to find he was the same. Apart from the white streak and the experiences, that was his brother. A part of him was in disbelief at the sight of the brunette, but he kept it bottled up. Just like Dream said to do.
But this was not Tommy. At least, not the Tommy that Wilbur knew. Not the Tommy he had sung to ever night before bed. Not the Tommy he had looked after all those years. Not the Tommy that looked up to him more than anyone else in the world. This was a mere shell of the Tommy he knew.
And it broke his heart.
"Tommy, wh-what happened?" he whimpered, the tears already collecting in his eyes.
Tommy looked away, for the first time feeling a hint of guilt. Why did Wilbur sound so disappointed? The feeling was something he had feared more than anything. But didn't he hate Tommy? So why did it seem like he cared?
"It's gone Wilbur." the blonde said bluntly, looking back at his masterpiece. He missed the realization that sparked in the brunette's eyes. This had happened before. Only the parts were reversed.
Wilbur stared at Tommy, trying to decipher the puzzle in front of him. "What happened? Why... why would you do something like this?"
Tommy turned towards him, the flash of anger evident in his dull eyes. "Don't act so innocent Wilbur. You were once in the spot I stood now. You of all people should understand being broken."
"Tommy-"
"But it's okay." Wilbur bit his lip, fearing the words that were about to come out of his mouth. "Because I have Dream now. And-d he cares about me. That's all that matters anymore." Tommy smiled widely again, but it didn't reach his eyes. It wasn't even close. It was like he was trying to convince him that what he said was true. He was trying to silence the voice that cried out for help.
"What did he do to you?" Wilbur whispered in disbelief. The Tommy he knew would never say such a thing. He hated Dream more than anyone. So how could he believe that monster was the only one to ever care about him.
"He took care of me." Tommy paused, his eyes tracing the clouds. "He visited me when no one else did. He kept me safe... He kept me in control." His eyes drifted back to Wilbur, again the anger flashing. "He told me the truth."
"What truth? Tommy you can't believe-"
"You're all afraid of me! The people who I thought loved me were lying!" his voice cracked, mirroring what was left of his innocent heart. "How could you do that to me?!" Tears raced down his face as his broken parts were revealed.
"Toms-" Wilbur began, using the nickname Tommy had always loved.
"Don't call me that!" the younger snapped. Inside that voice screamed even louder. Reminding him that this was Wilbur. This was his true brother. But Tommy was done. He was done listening to that voice. After all that voice got him exiled in the first place. "Only my brother can call me that."
Wilbur's heart shattered at his words. Tommy didn't think him as a brother anymore? Tears pricked his vision, but he didn't care. His thoughts were too controlling. He lost his little brother...
A voice approached from behind. "Oh Toms, is this guy bothering you?" Dream asked softly, the smirk hidden in his voice.
"Dream!" Tommy exclaimed, racing towards the blonde. The older engulfed him in a hug, again running his fingers through his hair, tugging at it ever so gently. Dream looked over Tommy's shoulder, grinning at Wilbur's broken expression. Tommy pulled back, looking up at him expectedly. "Did you see? Did I make you proud?!" he asked, desperate for the words he needed.
Dream looked up, gasping as though he was seeing it for the first time. "Wow! It's even better than I expected!" he turned to Tommy, patting him on the head. "I'm so proud of you Toms." Tommy leaned into his touch, smiling at his words.
Wilbur glared at them, wanting nothing more than to save Tommy from that monster. A hand grasped his shoulder, making him turn. The brunette had never been so relieved to see two people in all his life. They could fix this. They could bring his Tommy back.
"What are you doing with him?" Techno growled, pushing Wilbur behind him. His red eyes were darker than Dream had ever seen before. And for a mere moment Dream was afraid. But his plan worked too well.
Tommy glared at Techno with more fury than the pinkette had ever seen before. "Go away Technoblade." Poison spread through his words, slicing a hole in Techno's heart. Tommy called him by his full name... He had never done that before.
"Tommy-"
"You heard him." Dream chuckled, holding Tommy closer. "He's not your Tommy anymore. He's mine." The blonde reached into his pocket, pulling out the final piece of his plan. He offered the object to Tommy, asking softly, "What do you say we get out of here Toms?"
The younger took the object, staring at it in wonder. The voice inside him screamed out again. This isn't you! You could never put that on! But he wasn't listening anymore. He wasn't Wilbur's little brother anymore. He was Dream's.
With a slight hesitation, he pulled the mask over his face. Turning to Dream, he nodded. Dream began leading him away from what he once knew. His family... his home.
He looked back one last time, his heart nearly breaking at the sight.
He had never seen three people look so broken.
The real Tommy would have run back, running into the safety of their arms. He would have begged to go home. He never would have wanted to leave again.
But this wasn't Tommy anymore.
Their Tommy was gone. And they knew that.
