Wilbur POV
The plan couldn't happen soon enough in Wilbur's opinion. The sooner their family went back to normal, the better. That night Wilbur waited until everyone had fallen asleep.
He listened for every sound in the house to disappear. The creak of Kristin and Phil heading towards their room. The soft thump of Techno's precious book being abandoned on his nightstand. The obnoxious giggle of the baby.
The moment he could only hear the soft creaks of the house Wilbur finally made his move. Getting up from the bed, he threw on his shoes and cloak before moving towards the window. Carefully lifting the glass upward, he slipped into the night.
He knew the way to Puffy's like the back of his hand. Wilbur and Techno had grown to be good friends with several of her kids and because of that, they were always running over to play. She would always welcome them in, always treating them like sons of her own.
Wilbur smiled fondly at the sight of the boat, wrapping his cloak tighter around himself. It had been a while since he had seen her since they were always traveling. Quickening his pace, he made straight for the docks. He spotted her immediately, tidying up the boat with a broom.
"Hey Puffy!" he shouted, stopping in front of the boat.
She looked up, squinting before smiling. "Wilbur! It's been too long." Abandoning her broom, she waved him onward. "Don't just stand there, come aboard!" The dock creaked as he jumped on the boat, gently swaying it side to side. He rushed towards her, immediately giving her a big hug. She chuckled, "What brings you out here so late? Don't tell me Kristin sent you on a mission for a cup of sugar again."
He laughed, remembering that night. A year or so before, Kristin had been trying tons of new recipes, finding a new joy in baking. Because she was baking so often, one night, she had run out of sugar. Immediately she was in a panic. Instead of waiting until the morning, she had insisted Wilbur run over to Puffy's, requesting a cup of sugar. The brunette had obliged regrettably, his mood only rising with the smell of the fresh cookies.
"No, no. I- uh-" He bit his lip, suddenly feeling hesitant. This is for their own good, he told himself. It will be better for everyone. "I was actually coming to ask for a favor. Phil would have come himself, but he was so worn out from our trip that I offered to do it..."
"You know I would do anything, your family has been nothing but good to me," Puffy reassured.
"Right." He swallowed, "We -uh- we found this baby when we were on our trip and we were wondering if you would be willing to take him in. We're just so busy, we don't have time to look after a baby."
Puffy raised her eyebrows. "Phil said this?"
"Yeah," Wilbur nodded. "We just want him to have the best home he can have. That's all." He began picking at his fingernails, praying she wouldn't ask for confirmation from Phil.
She paused, thinking over the details carefully. "Of course I'll take him in, if that's what Phil and Kristin want." Her eyes traced towards Wilbur's as if she were looking for something.
"Great!" he exclaimed a little too loudly. "I'll bring him tomorrow then." He turned on his heel, forcing a smile on his face. "I- we can't thank you enough-"
"I never thought I'd see the day that Phil let a child go," Puffy commented. "I always thought his heart was too big for that."
Sweat began to drip down his neck as he began walking back towards the dock. "I guess two kids is enough," He tried to laugh. "I'll see you tomorrow then!" He stepped off of the boat, waving one more time before heading back. He could feel Puffy's gaze burning through his back. Just keep walking, he told himself.
By this time tomorrow, things would finally be back to normal.

Techno POV
Earlier that day Techno had noticed Phil yawning more and more. He must be exhausted from our trip, especially with the added day, he thought to himself. They were sitting at the kitchen table, just the two of them. Wilbur had already headed back towards his room, sputtering under his breath. Kristin was washing dishes, humming to herself. Phil yawned again, causing Tommy, who was on his lap, to giggle.
"Do you want me to take him?" Phil's head whipped towards Techno. "What? You look exhausted," he continued, already regretting his decision to speak up. He couldn't help it, it was clear Phil needed to sleep. All these late nights with Tommy were finally catching up to him.
"I never thought I'd see the day you actually offered to help with a baby," Phil chuckled. He looked down at Tommy, sighing. "That would actually be a big help."
Techno forced himself to his feet, pausing in front of the baby. How was he even supposed to hold him? His mind was racing a million times a minute, running over every risky scenario that came with holding a baby. What if he dropped him? What if he drooled on Techno? Or worse, threw up?
Phil gently handed him the baby, making sure he had him before letting go. Tommy curled up in his arms, reaching towards Techno's earring. Those blue eyes were so enchanting. Techno could help but stare into them.
"You're a natural," Phil yawned, his feet already carrying him towards his bed. "Kristin can take him in a little bit, if you don't mind taking him until then."
Techno waved him off, silently urging him to bed. Phil got the hint, disappearing into his room. He looked up to see Kristin smiling at him proudly. "Cute, isn't he?"
"I've never seen a baby with such blue eyes," he said in disbelief.
Kristin laughed, "They sure are mesmerizing."
He nodded, thinking for a moment. What should he do? Clearly Tommy would not be sleeping anytime soon, judging by him still attempting to snatch his earring. He glanced towards Kristin for help.
"You should read to him," she suggested. "Phil was showing him the constellations earlier, perhaps he'll find mythology just as interesting."
Techno shrugged, knowing he had no better options. Making sure Tommy was securely in his arms, he headed for his room. His room was bigger than Wilbur's by a few feet, filled to the brim with books. They were everywhere, from stacks on the floor near the window, to the bookshelves that outlined his room. He loved several different genres. Fantasy, mystery, horror, but mythology was his favorite.
Setting the baby on the bed, he instantly reached for his mythology book. It was lying on his nightstand, the same place he but it every night. Lying on the bed, Tommy crawled into his lap. "So you like constellations, huh? Just you wait, mythology is even better." He opened the book, holding it so both of them could see the pictures.
Immediately Tommy was hooked, pointing at pictures of different creatures like Medusa and cyclopes. Techno would explain what each one is, feeling crazy as he talked to a baby. But Tommy listened to every word, cooing at each new discovery. Pegasus was his favorite by far. Every time he spotted the winged horse, he would shriek in excitement.
It only took an hour for Tommy to fall asleep. Techno flipped the pages a few more times until he was sure Tommy was asleep. Putting the book aside, he sighed. He glanced down at Tommy, surprised by the smile growing on his face.
What if Wilbur was wrong? Only a few days of having the kid and Techno was already struggling to imagine life without him. He was just so innocent. How could he not love him?
Techno groaned, knowing Wilbur would disagree. He could only hope that he could change his mind before the deed was done.
