Wilbur POV

Techno never let Wilbur drive the car, despite the fact that they had both gotten their license around the same time. But no matter how much Wilbur complained, Techno always brought up the same memory.

"Remember when you nearly got us into an accident?!"

It had been years before, when the twins were just learning how to drive. It had been Wilbur's turn to drive, with Techno in the back and the instructor in the passenger seat. The drive had been fine in the beginning. Sure, there were a few little things to improve on, like stopping too fast or drifting in the lane. But Wilbur was feeling confident.

That was until he was introduced to the highway. A giant road with a sea of cars, each driver caring too much about themselves to actually follow the rules of driving. Needless to say, Wilbur had panicked and drifted into another lane, nearly avoiding a collision.

Wilbur had gotten a lot better with driving as the weeks went on. But Techno refused to let him forget it. Now he was stuck in the passenger's seat, moping about the fact that his brother wouldn't let him change the music.

Nearly bored out of his mind, his eyes turned to the rearview mirror. He was surprised to find Tommy silent. The usual jumping-off-the-walls child was now sitting quietly in his seat, fidgeting with his fingers with his eyes glued out the window. The kid was nervous. Probably about that stupid math test, Wilbur thought to himself. Turning around to face the blonde, he piped up, "You excited to choose the movie tonight, Toms?"

To his surprise, the younger didn't even give him a side glance. It looked like he hadn't even heard him, like he was in his own world. The test really must have him worried.

"Tommy?" He spoke a bit louder this time. But again, he got no response. Finally, he tapped the boy's knee, successfully making him jump out of his skin.

"Jeez, Wil! Can you warn me next time?" he panted, his hand falling above his heart.

Wilbur tilted his head, concerned, "I called your name a few times." Studying the boy, he asked, "Are you okay, Toms?"

Tommy seemed to panic for a moment. Looking into his brown eyes, he tried to relax the tension that filled his small frame. "O-of course, Wil. Why wouldn't I be?"

Wilbur opened his mouth to respond, but Techno beat him to it. "I bet he's just worried about that big test today. Right, Toms?"

The blonde quickly nodded, leaning back in his seat. "Y-yeah, that's it..."

But Wilbur didn't buy it. "Are you sure? Tests have never gotten you worked up this much before."

Tommy gulped, reaffirming his nod. "It's a big grade..." His voice trailed off and he quickly turned to the window once more.

Wilbur stared at him for a moment longer before turning back to the road ahead. There was something about the way he said it that bothered him. It almost sounded like an excuse. But what else would Tommy be nervous about? He was missing something, he was sure of it.

Techno paused for a moment before speaking up, clearly wanting to get Tommy's mind off this big test. "What fall show are they doing this year, Toms?"

Silence bounced back, this time with Techno glancing in the rearview mirror in concern. "Tommy?" He was lost in his own world again. Wilbur nudged his knee once more, harder this time.

"What?!" the boy exclaimed, his eyes on wide alert.

Techno exchanged a look with Wilbur, raising an eyebrow in alarm. He sensed it too, Wilbur realized. "I was just asking what the fall show was this year. I'm assuming your doing the audition on Monday?"

Tommy relaxed a bit, smiling at the mention of the theatre club. It was something he loved more than anything when it came to school. The ability to show his true talents to the world without judgment was something he treasured, Wilbur knew that. "This year it's Sense and Sensibility. You know, the Jane Austen book?"

The pinkette nodded, his eyes lighting up at the mention of a book he's read. "It's a classic. I'm sure you'll like it. When do I have to pick you up?"

The smile fell from Tommy's face. "I can walk home, Tech you don't have to-"

"There is no way I- or either of our parents- are letting you walk home," Techno said sternly. "Just tell me a time and I'll be there."

"Are you sure-"

"He actually has to pick me up on Monday too," Wilbur spoke up, ignoring the surprised look from Techno. "My band is borrowing the band room to practice and I'm sure it will run as late as your audition."

Tommy stared at him, puzzled. "I thought you always went to-"

"We're switching up a bit," Wilbur cut him off. "Ash's mom has been complaining about how loud we play and the band director offered the band room to us. We figured we'd take the offer."

The blonde again looked at Wilbur before reluctantly accepting the answer. "I guess if you're already picking up Wilbur..." He was fidgeting with his hands again. "My audition is scheduled for four."

"I'll be there," Techno promised. He turned into the high school, weaving through the crowd of crazy drivers. His parking spot was closer to the front, near the front entrance. Parking perfectly like always, the three of them jumped out of the car.

They headed into school, with Tommy following Techno and Wilbur. The twins slowed their steps to match Tommy's, again taking account of how slow he was walking.

The first bell rang, signaling the five minute warning until class started. Wilbur hugged Tommy, taking note of how tightly he held on. "Good luck on your test Toms!"

Techno ruffled the boys hair, "Let us know if you need anything. You know we'll be there."

"Thanks," Tommy grinned up at them, but his eyes betrayed him. He looked sad... Maybe even scared.

Then the three of them split, heading towards their respective hallways. Wilbur watched after Tommy, swearing he heard the blonde say something. But it was too quick for him to catch what he said.

Sighing, he couldn't wait for this big test to be over for Tommy. At least then he would get his loud, lovable Tommy back.

If only he knew the true cause of the boy's fear.
