Tommy POV
"What took so long?" Motherinnit asked as soon as he reached the bottom of the stairs. She was already near the door, ready to leave when the time came.
He quickly grabbed his coat, pulling it on and replying, "I had to say goodbye to the boys!"
She chuckled, shaking her head in amusement. "Well I don't want to be late for our adventure."
"You sure you don't want to tell me what it is?" he questioned, smiling as innocently as he could. The curiosity was killing him at this point.
She shook her head firmly, "My lips are sealed."
He groaned, knowing his mother would never tell. She would take the secret to her grave if she had to. Leaning against the door, he tried to think of what it could possibly be. Why couldn't they just tell him? It would be so much easier.
Fatherinnit joined them a few minutes later, indicating they were finally ready to leave. Tommy continued to attempt to bribe them into telling him to no avail. They were on the road before he knew it.
After a few minutes of begging, he leaned against the window in defeat. Trees and houses whizzed by, barely sparking his interest. His curiosity nagged at him, running a million things through his head.
His mother struck up a conversation, hoping to distract him. "So how's school going Tommy?"
Glancing towards the front, the blonde sighed. "It's alright. I'll be glad when its over." The summer couldn't come fast enough. He just wanted this school year to finally end.
Motherinnit smiled reassuringly. "I think your surprise will make everything better."
He perked up at her words, hoping she would give him more hints as to what it was. "So it's a good thing?"
She nodded, "Of course!"
Fatherinnit tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. He caught her eye, and she gave a firm headshake. "Can't we tell him?" he pleaded.
"No, that would ruin the surprise!"
"He'll still be surprised!" the man exclaimed, taking his eyes off the road for a moment.
"Eyes on the road!" she shouted, nearly having a heart attack as the car swerved. "You're going to freak other drivers out!"
"I know... I know!" he hissed, trying to focus back on the road ahead. Tommy could tell he was so close to ruining the surprise. His father had never been one for keeping secrets. A moment passed before he again turned to Motherinnit. "I still think-"
That's when he saw the deer.
Tires squealed as the car attempted to swerve out of way. That hard turn caused him to lose control, sending them into a head on collision with another car.
Time seemed to slow down. Tommy heard the honking of a horn before the screeching sound of metal. He lurched forward, smacking his head against the chair in front of him. There was a ringing sound in his ears before everything turned black.
