Tommy POV
"Mr. Watson, is my class really that boring to where you can't at least try to pay attention?" Tommy shot up at the sharpness in her tone. Embarrassment flooded in his face as he realized he had fallen asleep again. Everyone was staring at him, some with pity and others with hatred.
"Sorry miss I-" he began, trying to explain why was so tired. But the teacher wouldn't let him finish, much to his frustration.
"I don't accept excuses Thomas." she continued, a small smirk on her face. He could tell she was enjoying this.
He felt his palms grow sweaty at the mention of his full name. He hated being called that more than anything. It was the one horrible reminder he couldn't erase no matter how hard he tried. He couldn't escape it. And what made it even worse was that the teacher knew that. She knew how badly it affected him because Phil had made all his teachers aware.
Taking a deep breath, he spoke up. He didn't want her to win. "Please don't call me that." He fidgeted with his fingers in an attempt to calm himself.
"What was that Thomas? Did I hear you talking back?"
Tommy swallowed, trying to push the memories out if his head. He didn't want a panic attack to happen in front of everyone. "I-"
"Thomas, what did I say about excuses?" She was now standing in front of him, her high heels tapping on the tile. The woman grinned, loving the example she was making out of him. "Now, are you going to pay attention Thomas?"
"Pay attention Thomas or I'll send you back right here, right now."
"God, I don't get paid enough for this."
"Thomas..."
"Thomas!"
"Stop calling me that!" Tommy erupted, his panic fueling out into a surge of anger. Every part of his body trembled. Techno said he would never get sent back... Wilbur said he would never let him go... Phil promised him... But the words wouldn't go away. They just got louder.
"Detention Thomas." the woman snapped, victory shining in her eye. "And I'll be calling your 'father'."
The blonde staggered to his feet, breathing heavily. He pushed his chair back, tears reflecting in his eyes. Throwing his bag over his shoulder and stomped out of the room. He was so done with this teacher.
As soon as he stepped into the hallway, he heard her voice. "Maybe you should just grow up Thomas."
The door slammed shut and Tommy's barriers fell down. Tears dripped down his face as the weight of her words hit him. Stumbling to the bathroom, he quickly locked himself in a stall. He stared at his hands, willing them to stop shaking. The voice just wouldn't got away.
"Thomas..."
"You're worthless..."
"No one could ever love you Thomas."
"I only do this because I love you."
Tommy covered his ears, trying to force that terrible voice out. Tommy would never see that man again. They promised him. Everything he said couldn't be true.
And suddenly he felt someone gently grab his hands, holding them against a beating heart. A soft voice whispered to him, "Breathe Toms, breathe."
"Wilbur?" he murmured, wanting so desperately to hear the comfort of his older brother's voice.
"No Tommy-"
"Techno?" he said, still hopeful.
"It's us Toms." a new voice emerged, right beside him.
That's when Tommy recognized the voice. Relief spread through his veins like wildfire. "Ranboo?"
"And Tubbo." the voice in front of him added. "Take deep breath Toms." Tubbo encouraged. Tommy did as he was told, slowing his breathing and listening to Tubbo's soft voice. Slowly they shaking calmed and the panic ceased.
Looking at his best friends, he was so grateful. "I don't know what I would do without you guys." he admitted. He quickly ran a hand through his sweaty hair
"What happened Tommy?" Tubbo asked.
The blonde sighed, hating the idea of thinking about the past events. He stood up on shaky legs and made his way to the sink. Cupping his hands, he washed his face in the hopes that it would wake him up a bit more. Then he turned to his friends, who were waiting patiently. "I fell asleep in class-"
"Again? Tommy that's the second time with week!" Ranboo exclaimed. "What on earth is keeping you up so late?"
Tommy bit his lip. "I've been helping Wilbur with his music..." The duo rolled their eyes, knowing the older should not be keeping him up so late. But Tommy protested, "He's been struggling with the lyrics! And I hate seeing him so miserable... I figured I could help him finish his album."
"He still shouldn't be keeping you up so late." Tubbo pointed out, knowing Tommy had good intentions.
To which Tommy shrugged. "I don't mind." He never minded helping his older brothers.
Suddenly the bell rung through the halls, indicating the class had ended. The three of them sighed, wanting nothing more than to go home. Luckily there was only a few classes left.
Besides, Tommy was already having a bad day. It couldn't possibly get worse.
Oh, but it could.
