Kristin POV

Kristin hunted along the shadows, completely separating from her parents almost immediately. In her experience, it was easier to get the job done without them. They had a tendency to drown in the success.

The three of them had used their senses to follow along the vampire's trail. They had managed to pinpoint its location, but they couldn't narrow it down specifically. Her father had become frustrated, not understanding why they hadn't already caught him. What he didn't realize is that in order for their senses to work perfectly, they all had to be focused.

A twig snapped behind her, causing her to whip around. Her blood ran cold. Something, or someone was watching her. Slowly she reached for her sword, gripping the handle firmly.

Two curious eyes peeked out of the shadows, narrowing on the sword in her hand. The figure studied her from head to toe. From her jet black hair down to her leather boots.

"You're the one everyone is talking about... The one they all fear," She turned towards the voice. "The vampire slayer," The vampire spat with venom in voice. It wasn't meant as a compliment. And she knew that.

Kristin blinked, a new found pain her heart. But what he said was true. She was a murderer, just like the rest of her family. They fought to protect the town, to protect the people they loved. And to do that, she had to murder vampires. She couldn't shy away from that fact and pretend it wasn't true. Maybe that's why it hurt so much, because it was true. Stepping forward, she pushed the pain away. She had to be strong. "They should fear me," She tried to glare, to meet his threatening stance. But it never went past her eyes.

The red eyes narrowed, watching her every move. Slowly, the vampire stepped closer, allowing her to see his true form. Her eyes widened at the sight of him. But not because he was terrifying or in any way scary. He was handsome. Far more handsome than she could have thought possible. Long golden locks sank down to his shoulders, some how unkept and neat all at the same time. He was dressed in all black, much like her, but it didn't shine like her outfit did. It almost seemed to be swallowed by the shadows. There was a fire in his eyes, mirroring the red, but if she looked hard enough, she could see green too.

"Well, I don't fear you," he smirked, crossing his arms. "Kristin."

She took a step back, releasing her grip on her sword in the process. How could he know her name? None of their enemies ever knew their names because they never dared to step foot in the human world. Not to mention, they were always so careful, never revealing even a sliver of their identities. Panicking, her brown eyes met his red ones. "You must have me confused with someone else... You have no idea who I am-"

But she had already given away too much. "I know full well, who you are. You're the daughter of the two most terrifying vampire hunters that have ever existed. And that all but adds to your flawless record. You've never shown mercy to any vampire, have you?"

"You were hunting my people-"

"And you were hunting mine."

His words made her blood run cold. She couldn't help but look back to the nightmares of a few nights before. Those pleading eyes, begging for life. Those kids... Who were just trying to survive. Shaking her head, she spoke up, "I do what I have to do."

"That doesn't make it right," He pointed out, beginning to circle around her. His eyes were no longer locked on hers, they were locked on her throat.

Kristin nodded, "I know... I used to think I was doing something right, that I was helping to save people. But... I should have known there was always a different side."

The vampire paused, looking puzzled. "You... regret it?"

"More than anything." And she meant it. Though it wouldn't fix the mistakes she had already made, it was a start. A start of something better.

His eyes swept over her once more, pausing not on her sword, but her beauty. "Perhaps... I don't really know you..." He was about to step closer, when two voices interrupted.

"Kristin! Where are you?!"

Turning away from him, she shouted, "Wait I-" But when she turned back towards the vampire, he was gone. Leaving no trace behind, not even a faint footprint.

Her parents raced to her side, still feeling the presence of the vampire. "What happened? I demand to know what happened!" Her father yelled.

She opened her mouth, hesitating. She couldn't tell them the truth. They would refuse to even entertain the idea of a listening vampire. They would only find fury in her so called lies. And to tell them the truth would risk ever seeing him again. And she was surprised to find that she truly did want to see him again.

Meeting her parents eyes, she shook her head.

"I... I lost trace of the vampire."
