Tommy POV

It was five days later when they found themselves at the gate of L'manberg. It was bigger than Tommy had imagined, much bigger than even Wilbur had thought. The brunette had described it as a small rebellion, a group that fought for freedom. To Tommy, it looked like a city. Not some small group that was barely holding on.

As they approached the gate, they were quickly stopped by two guards. Wilbur was quick to push Tommy behind him, glaring at them both.

"Who are you?" the one with ginger hair demanded. He was young and determined, fueled by a fiery spirit. But beneath that, Tommy could sense that he was as scared as he was.

Wilbur took a deep breath, stepping forward, "My name is Wilbur, and this is my brother, Tommy. We're looking to become citizens."

The woman glanced at Tommy, studying him for a moment, "He's a little young..."

"I was told you would take anyone," Wilbur retorted. He wasn't going anywhere without his little brother.

The ginger stepped closer, attempting to be intimidating. "How do we know you're not spies?" Just his voice made Tommy shiver. He looked towards his older brother, movning a bit closer. He had a bad feeling about all this.

Wilbur nodded slightly towards Tommy, he was thinking the same thing. But they had come too far from that place. They had no where else to go. "You really believe that two kids that are barely surviving on their own, could be spies?"

"Yes," he spoke sharply. Clearly this was rehearsed.

The woman, however, was a different story. Her gaze softened as she looked at Tommy. He wanted nothing more than to glare at her, demand that he didn't need anyone's sympathy. That Wilbur and him were fine on their own. But he knew that would only make things worse. "You boys look cold. You should come-"

"Niki!" the ginger shouted, "We can't just let them in! We don't know what their intentions are! They could be spies."

"Well, we're not learning anything out here," she remarked, "Look at them Fundy. They're kids! When have they ever used children as spies?"

"Maybe thy're changing tactics or something. The Antartic Empire is clever! Who knows-"

"They are far too traditional for that! And even if you believe every horrible thing people say about them, they have morales. They aren't going to send kids to do that kind of work." she paused, "I wish we could say the same..." Her voice trailed off.

Fundy froze at her words. "Shut up! Someone could be watching!" he hissed, quickly turning back to Tommy and Wilbur. "We can't help you."

Wilbur stiffened, "We have no where else to go-"

"That's what they all say!"

"Fundy!"

"I am not going to be blamed again!"

"Fundy will you-"

"Please?" Tommy finally spoke up. Guilt and pity turned toward him. Using the best puppy eyes he could manage, he whimpered, "We've been traveling for ages! And I'm so c-cold." Wilbur wrapped an arm around him, hoping to prove the story.

Niki glanced towards Fundy, "I'm taking them inside. If something happens, I'll take the blame." She reached her hand out, gingerly taking Tommy's icy hand in her own. "We'll get you warmed up." Then, sending a glare towards her companion, she lead the brothers inside.

Tommy looked around in bewilderment. Was this supposed to be a town? To the blonde, it looked like some kind of a military base. Large buildings wrapped along the walls, casting a ghostly glow. The sound of laughing made him glance towards what he could only assume was a shooting range. Groups of kids stood there, most of them only a little older than Tommy. Were they really laughing?

Niki smiled proudly, "I'm sure you'll be joining them soon enough. Even if you are a little young..."

Wilbur leaned closer to Tommy's ear, making sure his words were only audible to the blonde. "Over my dead body." The blonde moved closer to the older, finding comfort in his words. Nothing was going to happen to him while Wilbur was around.

The group sauntered forward, keeping a steady pace. The strangest thing to Tommy was how empty it was. There was no one walking streets. Tommy could only describe it as a ghost town. Niki finally came to stop outside a door leading into what seemed to be the largest building.

"I'll let him know you're here," she offered a smile to Tommy. "Then we'll get you warmed up." With a slight hesitation, she opened the door and disappeared inside.

Wilbur let out a breath, wrapping an arm around the younger. "We're finally home Toms."

The blonde bit his lip, a bad feeling rising in his chest. Glancing towards Wilbur, he wondered if it was true. Was this really their home now? It certainly wasn't what he had imagined. He had expected it to be warm, cozy even. With a community filled with people who actually cared about them. But the more he looked around, the more Tommy was beginning to think it was all a dream. What if it didn't exist? He sighed, "What if we don't like it?"

Wilbur's smile immediately fell at his words. Tommy instantly wanted to take it back. Opening his mouth to apologize, the brunette interrupted him, "I'm sure we just have to get comfortable. And besides, we can always leave."

"But where would we go?" the blonde wondered. "Like you said... this was our only option." He sighed, running a hand through his hair. Again the sound of laughter echoed in the distance, sending shivers down his spine. "I just have a bad feeling about this Wil..."

"I'm sure-"

But in that moment, the door opened once more. Niki stepped into the light. She seemed nervous, like she was on the edge of revealing something that could get her into trouble. Tommy studied her face, noticing that she was wearing her hair a different way then before. Was she always covering her right eye?

"He'll see you now."
