Tommy POV

Tommy knew they were watching from beyond the school entrance. He could feel the prickling sensations of their glares as he reached for the car door. As soon as he was safely in the car, he breathed a deep sigh of relief.

It had been close, too close for comfort. Unfortunately the bullies weren't satisfied with their torment at lunch. Instead of leaving him alone for the rest of the day, like they usually did, they had decided to jump him right before the entrance.

Something had made them angry, angrier than before. Whether it was Tommy's doing or not, he wasn't about to wait around and ask. As soon as he had spotted them out of the corner of his eye, he had made a run for it. Not even bothering to finish packing his bag. A late assignment wasn't the end of the world. Having to explain what happened to Wilbur and Techno was.

His shoes squeaked across the tile as he ran, drifting around corners as he navigated his way towards the entrance. Shouts followed his every move, urging his legs to move even faster.

"Get back here you little brat!"

"Cut him off!"

"When I get my hands on you-"

The sight of the entrance encased in smeared glass was enough to give Tommy one last sprint. As soon as his palms reached the door, he entered the outside world. His safe haven for the moment.

Tommy slowed down his pace, contradicting his pumping heart rate. With one foot in front of the other, he began making his way towards the car. He only got a few steps in before he realized his brothers were standing on the sidewalk, presumably waiting for him. He paused, a list of excuses filing in his head.

How long had they been waiting? Too long.... Long enough for them to feel the need to find him. Biting his lip, he found relief in telling them half of the truth. He had been stopped by a teacher in his last hour. It wasn't a lie. Tommy could only hope they wouldn't ask questions beyond that. But one look at Techno's expression and he knew otherwise.

Sitting in the car, Tommy still feared that question. The question that would finally break down his crumbling wall. But, much to his surprise, the rest of the car ride was silent, aside from the loud glances between Wilbur and Techno, silently communicating beyond Tommy's comprehension. Not that he minded. At least he could keep to himself for the time being.

Staring out the window made the time fly faster. The moment the car parked, Tommy was out of the car, bringing his backpack with him. Wilbur and Techno raced after him, falling into step behind him.

The opening of the front door greeted them like their mother. "Hey boys! How was school?"

"Fine," the three of them grumbled, each having their own reasons. Tommy was sure his couldn't compare to his siblings. Though he wished it would.

Without another thought, he made his way to his room, content on locking himself away until dinner. His brothers didn't stop him, sending him only a small smile in response.

The moment the door closed, Tommy was at his desk, writing in his notebook. It was the only thing keeping him from revealing his darkest secret and biggest fear. It was like therapy in a sense. A chance to reflect on what had happened and how to deal with it. When it he wasn't in his room, he locked the pages away, hiding it deep within the drawers of his desk. Not that he thought anyone would ever look for it. His family respected him far too much for that. They never entered his room unannounced, least of all when he wasn't there.

He wrote until the late hours of the dawn, expressing every fear he had collected throughout the day. He asked the same question he did everyday, when would it all end? But he wasn't sure he would ever find the answer.

Wilbur knocked on his door, opening it after a soft, "Come in." The brunette leaned in the doorway like he always did, chuckling at the sight of the blonde.

"Writing more song lyrics?" he questioned, the same assumption as always. Even if he knew it wasn't true, he continued to believe it, mostly out of habit.

Tommy rolled his eyes, quickly shutting the notebook. "You wish! I bet I could write better lyrics than you ever could."

Wilbur smiled, that playful glint sparkling in his eyes. "Maybe you could help me write some lyrics this weekend." The blonde paused, his blue eyes wide. This wasn't like their usual banter. Wilbur had never offered something like this before. "How about that?"

"R-really?" Tommy almost didn't believe it.

His brother strutted over to him, immediately ruffling the younger's hair. "Of course! I've been having writer's block anyway. I thought it could be fun!" He paused, "Techno could even hang with us if he wanted."

Tommy's smile widened even more, if that was even possible. The thought of hanging out with his two brothers was enough to make his heart burst with excitement. In recent months, they hadn't been together as much, with homework and after school activities dragging them further and further apart. "I'd like that," he spoke quietly. If only Wilbur knew how much it meant to him.

From the beaming grin of his own, Tommy had the feeling he did know. Though he would never admit it. "Alright then!" He turned on his heel, ready to make his grand entrance when he halted. "Oh yeah, it's dinner time by the way."

Tommy rose to his feet, hiding his notebook before stalking after the brunette. The two made their way to the kitchen where Kristin had prepared dinner. It was pasta, Tommy's favorite. He glanced towards his mother, wondering why. But she simply smiled and kissed his forehead, "Why don't you go choose a movie, Toms? I think tonight's your turn." He didn't shiver at the nickname, only grinning more.

One foot into the kitchen and he heard a shout from Techno. "And for the love of God, do not choose Up!"

Tommy laughed, making no promises. Sorting through the assortment of movies on the shelf, he paused. Of course, his first instinct was to choose Up. But a thought drove him away from it. If Techno didn't want to watch it, the others probably didn't want to either.

It's not just about you Tommy.

A sigh and his hand reached out for a different movie. The Princess Bride. One he knew Techno would love. They hadn't watched it in a while anyways.

Phil, Techno, Wilbur, and Kristin made their way out into the living room, quickly finding their usual spots. Tommy popped the DVD into the DVD player before grabbing his food from the kitchen.

"When was the last time you actually listened to Techno?" Phil questioned, half in amusement, half in concern.

Tommy shrugged, finding his spot in between Techno and Wilbur. "I figured it was time for a change... We watched Up last week anyways." He tried to focus on his food instead of the hot stares of his family around him.

They seemed to be exchanging glances, ignoring the freezing of their forks in the air. After a few moments everything seemed to have gone back to normal, with the clanking of knives and forks and the dialogue of the movie.

Tommy sat back and smiled, engulfing himself in his favorite moment of the week. No bruises. No yelling. No stress. Just a night with his family.

Surrounded by the people he loved.
