Tommy POV

Tommy sprinted through the woods, ignoring every voice that screamed at him to go back. Past tree after tree, he ran as fast as he could. His family came first. That's what he kept repeating in his head. But his brain and heart were telling him two different things.

Were his only loyalties to his pack? Or was it possible he had two families? He pushed forward, trying not to succumb to the voices in his head. One foot in front of the other, he got closer and closer to his pack.

Passing through the trees he had come to know so well, he was surprised to feel a strange sadness. It was like he could hardly recongize them anymore. Could a few days really change that much?

Tommy paused as he came to clearing. They had to be around here somewhere, he could just sense it. Kneeling to the ground, he closed his eyes. He waited a moment, listening for a sound that would point him in the right direction.

A low growl caused him to jump. Whipping towards the noise, a shiver ran through his spine. There the alpha stood, glaring down at him. Tommy gulped, keeping his head low. He could only hope the wolf would accept him, despite the strange smells that lingered from his new clothes.

The wolf sniffed his scent, growling at any slight movement he made. Out of the corner of his eye, he was surprised to see the rest of the pack. Their gazes fell through several emotions. Ranging from excitement to anger.

Tommy stayed frozen, waiting for the alpha to make his move. There was a sudden shift in the wolf as he looked up at the blonde. He growled again, an even more threatening one. Tommy gulped, knowing exactly what it meant.

The alpha believed him to be a stranger. The large wolf barked, snarling in defense. Tommy fell backwards, suddenly fearing for his own life. He had never seen eyes like that. Eyes that belonged to a creature that would stop at nothing to rip anything threat apart.

Tommy staggered to his feet, preparing to run. The alpha hesitated before turning his back on the blonde. Pacing back towards the rest of the pack, he didn't look back. The other wolves followed, barely sparing a glance.

Falling to his knees, Tommy couldn't stop the tears from flowing. He had lost the family that had looked after him all his life. Burying his face in his hands, he had never felt loss like that before.

A soft whimper made the blonde look up. A young female wolf looked at him with the same motherly gaze she had always had. Stepping closer, she gently licked away his tears. He chuckled, wrapping his arms around the wolf.

Time seemed to stop as they sat there, Tommy's grip never loosening. He didn't want to leave the only childhood he had ever had. But it wasn't something he could stop. No one could.

Tommy finally pulled back, wiping away the rest of his tears. The wolf stood up, giving him one last glance before running after the others. The boy watched the wolf go, feeling another tear fall.

But this time there was no mother to comfort him.

A sudden howl made him snap out of his trance. Barking followed, accompanied by gunshots. Jumping to his feet, Tommy rushed after his pack. How could he get so distracted? He could have protected them or at least tried. Yet here he was, wallowing in his own tears.

He ran as fast as he could, praying there was still time. Climbing further up the hill, his heart dropped. A war had begun, already having a clear winner.

Wolves lay everywhere, soaking the grass with their blood. On the other side, a group of hunter laughed. Dragging the dead bodies behind them, they had no care in the world. Their only goal was to gain as much profit as they could. And wolf pelts were their key to success.

Tommy sprinted down the hill, hoping to save what ever wolves he could. The pack had already suffered a huge loss, one that the blonde wasn't sure they could ever recover from.

Many of wolves were already mourning, falling beside their mates in tears. But the alpha continued to snarl and snap, set on protecting his family. Beside him stood a few others, but it would never be enough to even fight against the forces of a gun.

"Stop!" he shouted, jumping in front of the alpha. "Please!"

One of the hunters laughed, lowering his gun. "Get out of the way kid." he said calmly.

"Leave them alone." Tommy stood his ground. He couldn't let them take away anyone else.

"This is our job wolfboy." Another hunter said, stepping closer to the blonde. "So you can either get out of the way or we'll add you to the bodies on the floor."

"Shut up Scott." the first one scowled. "We're not about to kill some innocent kid."

"But he's interferring!" Scott exclaimed, pointing his gun towards the blonde. "Henry come on!"

Tommy's eyes widened, the name filling the void in his mind. That was the name he always imagined his father to have...

The first hunter immediately grabbed the gun, keeping it away from Tommy. "He's just a kid." Looking towards Tommy, he chose his words carefully. "Besides, I think we're done here."

"But what about-"

"I said we're done here." Henry was firm.

Throwing his gun over his shoulder, he turned on his heel. "Leave them." Tommy pleaded.

Scott opened his mouth to argue, but Henry got it first. "Their our kills son. Just be glad we're leaving the rest of the pack."

Tommy shivered at the word son. Hesitating, the blonde couldn't help but yell after him. His hope fueled his own curiousity. "Were you ever married?"

Henry paused, glancing towards him with sorry eyes. "Once but that was a long time ago." He slowly picked up one of the wolves' legs, beginning to drag it away. He never spared a glance towards the boy, but he wanted to. The rest of the hunters followed, bringing their own kills with them.

There was a pause before the disappointment set in. But it didn't last longer than a moment. Sighing, Tommy didn't care if he could have just found his true father. In his mind, he already had a family.

Tommy watched as the hunters disappeared over the hill, swallowing back the tears he felt. He couldn't stop what had happened. But he could help them recover and make sure it never happened again.

Turning back towards the pack, he ran to each wolf, attempting to help wherever he could. Unfortunately there wasn't much he could do. Even the wolves that had been wounded were doomed. There was nothing Tommy could do to stop the live as it drained out of them.

A pack that had once been sixteen wolves had broken down to six.
