Tommy POV

Today had not gone at all like Tommy planned. What should have turned out to be one of the best days of his life, had quickly drifted into one of his worst. Sitting in his math class, Tommy had never wanted to disappear more.

Glancing past the clock, his eyes landed on the calendar. Today was April 9th. The anniversary of his birth. Or everyone thought, a normal Thursday. That day, Tommy had woken up with a bright smile on his face. Just the idea of being able to spend his birthday with the people he loved was enough to put him in a good mood. But the excitement was quickly extinguished when he realized no one remembered. Not even his family, the people who made a point to celebrate everything he did.

In fact, for nearly the entire week he was completely ignored. Whispers drifted around every corner, only making Tommy feel worse. The blonde hated being left out more than anything. And the worst part was that they knew.

They knew that he struggled with mental health, especially since they had adopted him. He never told them why and they respected that. To have them forget such a special day broke his heart. Especially because it used to be forgotten every year before he met his family. But he knew better than to bring it up.

Tommy could feel a part of him falling back to his old thoughts. Maybe they didn't really care about him. All those promises... maybe they really were all lies.  Burying his face back into his arms, he couldn't stop a tear from escaping. How could he be so stupid? Obviously no one liked him.

Maybe he should just leave.

He froze as the idea surfaced. Run away? ...Just like he used to. But he had promised them... He had sworn that he would stop running. That he would come to them when those thoughts and fears resurfaced. But they had already broken their promises. All bets were off, Tommy concluded.

With one eye on the teacher, he slipped his hand into his pocket. Retrieving his phone, a sliver of hope filled him. Maybe one of them remembered! But illuminating the screen, all his hopes were crushed once more. Shaking his head, he couldn't believe how stupid he was.

Immediately he began searching the internet. Soonest bus ride out of state.  Scrolling down the list, his stomach turned uneasily. Bus to Chicago, leaving at 5pm. Swallowing, he pushed his feelings aside. This was the best thing for him. To get away from the people who lied... the people he loved with all his heart. He was doing them a favor.

No, he had made up his mind. He'd buy a ticket on his way home... and then wait it out. He doubted they would even notice his absence. It was easy, at least that's what he told himself.

Bouncing his legs in anticipation, he waited for school to end. Bell after bell, he kept silent. Not even bothering to meet up with his friends. He was thankful when the final bell rang. Ignoring his clammy hands, he quickly made his way out of the school.

Out of habit, he glanced towards the usual meeting spot. Sure enough, Wilbur and Techno weren't there. Tommy wiped a tear out of his eye. They really did forget about him. He knew it was only a matter of time before they sent him away. It only confirmed his plan further.

Well they didn't need to worry, Tommy would disappear. They would never have to see him ever again.

Tommy turned on his heel, walking in the opposite direction. He kept his head won as he walked, ignoring every voice that echoed in his head. That was the best family he had ever found. He couldn't just throw all that away... But they forgot him! But did that give him the right to forget about them?

His thoughts were silenced at the sight of the bus stop. Tommy gulped at the big black letters. He had never felt so small before. And it must have been easy to tell because eyes seemed to follow him everywhere he looked.

Tommy made his way towards the counter. Standing on his tippy toes, he requested, "One ticket for Chicago please."

The man raised an eyebrow, "How old are you kid?"

"E-eighteen." Tommy stood up straighter in the hopes it would make him feel older.

Studying him, the man sighed. "Sixteen dollars."

The boy dug into his pocket, pulling out the lunch money he had been saving up throughout the week. He offered it to the man, who took it hesitantly.

The man handed him the ticket, but as Tommy grabbed it, he stopped him. "Don't do something stupid. Whatever you're running from... Running is never the solution."

Tommy ripped the ticket from his hand, glaring at the man. "You don't know me." He turned on his heel, pausing at the sorrow in the man's voice.

"No, but I see people like you all the time. Teenagers that are lost too deep in themselves to see the solutions in front of them. Rebellious or stupid... It's all the same." he took a deep breath. "Just don't make the biggest mistake of your life."

"Yeah, whatever." Tommy shook his head, fully walking away. He could feel the man's eyes burning in his back as he walked. The man didn't know what he was talking about. The blonde found an empty bench, attempting to make himself as comfortable. Now he just had to wait.

He would be out of their lives in just two hours.
