Tommy POV
Tommy's blue eyes quickly met Tubbo's brown eyes. "Tommy..." Tubbo began. But Tommy didn't respond, not only because he didn't want to, but also because in that moment he felt the puke rising up his throat. Within a few seconds, his head was in a trashcan, throwing up anything that was left in his stomach.
Tubbo rushed to his side, but Tommy pushed him away. "I'm fine!" he shouted, wiping his mouth on his sleeve. Glaring at his best friend, he said, "If I could go more than ten steps without throwing up, I would have been gone by now."
"Let me get you some medicine-"
"Don't bother." Tommy shook his head, immediately cradling it in his hands. He had never had such a painful headache before. It felt like someone was pounding a nail into his head, over and over again. "Just leave me alone. You never had a problem doing it before."
Tubbo sighed, shifting his weight from foot to foot. "I'm sorry Tommy, really I am. I got so carried away with Theo and I-"
"I'm surprised you're not streaming with him now. Just imagine all the memories you might be missing!" Sarcasm dripped from the blonde's tone. The weeks of pain and neglect were finally shining through.
Tubbo's face changed into frustration. "I'm trying to apologize Tommy!"
"Well save it!" Tommy shouted, immediately regretting it. Just loud noises were enough to send him through the roof. "I know you don't actually feel bad... After all, he's better than me. Who would want to stream with Tommy? He's nothing but an annoying, obnoxious teen who doesn't know when to shut up."
"I disagree." Tubbo whispered, barely loud enough for Tommy to hear. He turned away, not caring what the other said. "He's the smartest guy I've ever met. Funny, hardworking... Kind. You wouldn't expect it, especially after first impressions. Heck, I didn't even see it coming. But he is my best friend after all."
Tommy stuffed his head into the bucket once more. When he was done, he paused. Did Tubbo really mean what he said? "Then how could you forget him?"
Tubbo took a step back, struggling to find the right words. There was no excuse for what he did. Perhaps no words to make it right. Tommy took his hesitation the wrong way, changing back to his original glare. Tubbo opened his mouth to respond when an intense pain filled Tommy's head. He squeezed his eyes shut, praying for throbbing to stop. A moment passed before he blinked his eyes open.
Tubbo sighed, reaching out to comfort him but stopping. Tommy moved away from him, wiping his mouth. "I'll go get you some water." he stood up, leaving the room.
Tommy's head fell to his hands the moment the brunette left. Curling in on himself, he sighed. Maybe sleep would help this headache. And it would make time go by quicker. The faster he felt better, the happier he would be. He just wanted to get out of here. He was sick of pity.
Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath. Then without wasting another moment, he let sleep take him.
Whispers woke him up hours later.
"How has he been feeling?"
"Awful. I've done everything I can think of! I just want to help him feel better..."
"You've done you're best Tubs."
"We just wanted to make sure he was okay."
"He's going to kill me..."
"He'll have to understand..." the voices moved further away, disappearing likely into the kitchen. Tommy was about to open his eyes when he felt a hand gently combing through his hair. The hand was comforting, Tommy couldn't help but lean into the touch.
There was a chuckle, "Toms?"
Tommy's heart nearly stopped as he came to realization that Wilbur was sitting beside him. He knew it was inevitable, but that didn't make him feel any better. All he could think about was what he was going to tell him. Closing his eyes, he didn't want to think of the disappointment on all of their faces... But Wilbur's would be the worst. The person who he looked up to the most was seeing him at his lowest.
Tommy had never wanted to run so bad in his life. Away from that disappointing look. Sighing, he tried to turn away from Wilbur, but the older grabbed his arm.
"Toms?" Tommy refused to meet his eyes. Squeezing his eyes shut, he prepared for the worst. Wilbur came towards him, barely wasting a second. Gentle arms wrapped around the blonde, gripping the back of his shirt. "I'm so glad you're okay."
The blonde froze at his words. He wasn't mad? Confusion filled his face as he pulled back. "You... you aren't mad?"
Wilbur sighed, running a hand through his messy hair. "I... That doesn't matter right now. Let's worry about you first."
"I'm sorry-" Tommy held his head in his hands, feeling his head begin to throb once more.
Wilbur glanced towards Tubbo, who was suddenly standing behind him.
"Phil said to take two of these," his hand reached out towards Tommy, offering medicine.
The blonde took the medicine immediately, quickly washing them down with the glass of water beside him. He could practically hear his head crying with joy. Just the thought of the medicine was enough to ease his headache ever so slightly. Sighing, he finally met Tubbo's eyes. "Thanks..."
Tubbo smiled, for a moment showing the best friend he missed the most. Warm brown eyes with a childish smile. It felt like nothing had ever changed. Like Tommy hadn't been replaced. But just the thought for what had happened brought Tommy back to reality.
"Shouldn't you be hanging out with Theo?" he grumbled, his eyes turning back to ice.
"Tommy I... I'm sorry-"
"I don't want to hear it," Tommy turned away.
Tubbo ran a hand through his hair, the frustration shining in his tears. "I just want my best friend back... I know my apologies will never be enough to take back what I did. But I was hoping... I was just hoping building our relationship again... was possible." Then without another word, he left the room.
Tommy could feel the air get sucked out of the room. Shaking his head, he could barely keep his own tears in.
Wilbur placed a hand on his shoulder, gently guiding Tommy's eyes to his. "He truly is sorry."
"But what if it happens again?" Tommy demanded, nearly jumping up. "He replaced me before... what's stopping him from doing it again?! I... I can't go through that pain again. I... don't think I could bear it."
"He's your best friend Tommy," Wilbur gave him a pained look. "You're meant to be best friends. And he knows that... And because of that he'll never let it happen again."
"How can you be so sure?"
Wilbur paused, thinking for a moment. "Because I'll kill him."
Tommy couldn't help but chuckle at that. Just the protectiveness in his voice made him smile. Wilbur cared and maybe Tubbo did too.
He just had to give him a chance.
