Tommy POV

Tommy burst into tears as soon as the door closed. How could he be so stupid? He had made everything worse. Why couldn't he just be like Tubbo? Just be patient. But that wasn't Tommy. He couldn't help but be impatient, always wanting to control his own destiny. Sitting around to wait for it just wasn't a possibility.

Tubbo peeked out from his covers. Immediately he threw his blankets off, rushing to Tommy's side. Shifting his weight from foot to foot, Tubbo was unsure of what to do. And Tommy understood why. When the blonde was upset, he usually hated hugs. There was just something about them he didn't like. Maybe it was because he hated when people saw him at his worst. Or maybe it was the suffocation all together.

Biting his lip, Tubbo tried to reassure him. "It's okay, Tommy! It's not your fault-"

"It's all my fault!" Tommy sobbed, burying his face in his hands. "I should have never snuck out in the first place! All I did was make things worse... I've never seen Techno so angry before... He'll probably never forgive me."

"Techno's just frustrated, that's all. You know how terrible he is at dealing with his own emotions. As soon as he calms down, I'm sure he'll apologize."

But Tommy didn't want that. He didn't want Techno to apologize. This was all his fault. Techno had every right to be angry. He glanced towards Tubbo, feeling a pit growing in his stomach. "They're never going to let me be a part of the team."

Tubbo shook his head, "Of course they will! We'll train harder! We'll show them the two of us are more than ready-"

"Maybe it's better this way..." Tommy whispered, his worst fears taking control. He wasn't as good as Tubbo and probably never would be. He was just the screw up. This night had proven that.

Tubbo couldn't hold back any longer. Without waiting another second, he ran forward and embraced the trembling boy. Seeing his twin this upset made his heart shatter. Tommy deserved so much more than this. "Don't say that, please don't say that," he murmured.

"I could have gotten you killed..."

The brunette shook his head, "You would never have let that happen."

"But... What if... What if I couldn't protect you? If something were to happen-"

"Nothing's going to happen, Toms. Nothing did happen," Tubbo pulled out of the hug as if to show the blonde that he was okay. "It was your quick thinking that saved us! If you hadn't distracted them, I wouldn't have been able to run for help."

Tommy said nothing, staring into the boy's blue eyes. He couldn't stop thinking about what could have happened. What if they had gotten Tubbo? He could have been killed, tortured even. And there's nothing he could have done to stop it. Not to mention, how badly he messed up. They could have been safe. And now that was impossible thanks to him. They would never have the upper hand against their enemies.

And he was the one to blame.

Eventually his final tear fell, and the two boys crawled into their beds. Tubbo had fallen asleep first, again covering himself in a cocoon of blankets. Tommy continued to torture himself, often glancing back at Tubbo to make sure he was still there.

Rooms away, the arguments raged on.

But that was the least of their worries.

A figure entered the old warehouse, making sure to step carefully. He inspected every inch of the place, looking for something. As soon as his eyes locked on the bookshelf, he smiled.

"It's here."
