Quackity POV
Quackity sighed, running a hand through his tangled hair. It had been a long day and he wanted nothing more than to crawl into bed. But there was something keeping him from it. Some feeling that refused to let him rest.
Looking around Las Nevadas, he sighed. A part of him regretted not allowing Wilbur to join. After all, he did have experience when it came to leading. Quackity, not so much. Was he a good president? Shaking his head, he suddenly felt a vibration from his pocket.
Pulling his phone out, his eyes widened on the name. What did Wilbur want? Rolling his eyes, he answered.
"What do you want Wilbur?"
"Hey Quackityyy!" Wilbur slurred, hiccupping at the end. "How'ss it goin'?"
Quackity groaned, ignoring the bad feeling eroding his stomach. Why was Wilbur drunk again? "Really Wilbur? Drunk again?" he questioned, fidgeting with his shirt.
"What? Noooo." he laughed, pausing to drink more.
"Okay I'm hanging up-"
"Can you come get meeee?" Wilbur begged.
Quackity thought for a moment. "What about Tommy? Can't he do it?"
"He's at home." There was a hint of sadness laced in his voice.
Quackity felt the confusion strike him. Did something happen? Him and Tommy had always been inseparable, especially after Wilbur had been revived. "Where are you right now?" Quackity sighed, annoyed that he was going to help him.
"Pogtopia."
Quackity shivered at the name. The ravine had been abandoned for years now. No one had stepped foot there since the end of the war. "I'm on my way." he hung up, slipping his phone in his pocket. He wanted to ask more questions, but he felt like it was better to ask them in person.
He made his way towards the stable that was on the edge of Las Nevadas. It was one of the newest editions that Sam had created. Walking down the aisle, he stopped in front of his favorite. It was a young steed the color of night.
He quickly pulled on a saddle and bridle before mounting the horse. Reluctantly, he pointed his horse in the direction of Pogtopia. The ride there was not as slow as he hoped. And before long, he stood in front of the old base.
Dismounting, he carefully tied his horse to one of the old trees. "You be good." he whispered fondly to the horse, receiving a soft neigh in response.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped inside. In and out. That was the plan. It was wishful thinking, as much as he wanted to deny it. These situations always took long. He made his way down the spiral staircase as carefully as he could. The further he went down, the creepier it seemed to get.
Cobwebs seemed to blanket every corner possible. Quackity didn't want to even think of the spiders that lied in them. The old torches cast a ghostly glow on the wall, revealing the history that lied deep within the place.
He stopped abruptly when he saw the staircase went straight, turning a few times before it hit the bottom. Taking another deep breath, he forced his feet forward. The sooner he got there, the sooner they could leave.
Looking around the ravine, he began to call out, "Wilbur! Wilbur where are you?!" The sounds echoed, sending a shiver down his spine. He hated this place.
A groan came from further down the cavern, where the torches grew thin. Quackity followed the wall, careful not to step on any of the old signs that had lasted. He paid no mind to what they said, knowing who had written on them. He'd know that handwriting anywhere.
"Wilbur let's go." he exclaimed, again feeling a shiver run down his spine. Making his way around the narrow turn, he quickly spotted the brunette. "Wilbur come on." he repeated, watching the man take another sip of his bottle.
Wilbur laughed, immediately offering a bottle from his collection. "Quackity! My enemy!" he exclaimed, raising a bottle. "You want one?"
Quackity immediately declined the offer, grabbing Wilbur by the shoulder. "Let's go Wil, I'm sure Tommy is worried about you-"
"Tommy?" Wilbur repeated, stopping abruptly. "Tommy hates me."
Quackity looked at him in confusion. "What do you mean? He's your brother." he pointed out, thinking of all the experiences the two had shared. From creating L'manberg to the fall of it, they had always had each other's back no matter what.
Wilbur seemed to crack at that very word. Shaking his head, he stumbled to his feet. "I'm a coward." he said slowly.
"What are you talking about-"
"I'M A COWARD!" he screamed, throwing the bottle in his hand against the wall. The glass shattered on impact, spilling the liquid everywhere. Tears poured out of the man's eyes as he looked down in shame. "I don't deserve to call myself Tommy's brother."
Quackity couldn't believe what he was hearing. "What happened Wilbur?" Sure they were enemies, but that didn't mean he couldn't help him.
Wilbur still refused to look at him, the shame he felt evident in his face. "I should have apologized... He's the one who deserves the biggest apology. Not that that could ever make up for the things I did..." He shook his head, wiping a tear from his eye. "I pushed him aside. I apologized to Techno instead. God, I'm such a coward. I can't even admit my own mistakes to my own brother." He buried his face in his hands. "I thought the drinking would make the guilt go away."
Quackity rested a hand on his shoulder. "You can still fix it." he reminded him.
Wilbur sighed, shaking his head. "I'm sure Tommy won't accept my apology. And he has every right not to. Nothing can make up for everything I've done."
Quackity sighed, trying to find the right words. "Well something is better than nothing." He paused, glancing towards the stairs. "Come on, the guilt won't get any better down here."
The brunette glanced at him, as though seeing him for the first time. "Why... why are you helping me?" he whispered.
"You called me-"
"I-I was awful to you today. And after everything I've done... I didn't think we were friends." he spoke softly, barely managing to meet Quackity's eyes.
He sighed, his hand gripping tighter on Wilbur's arm. "We're not... but I know you're important to Tommy. So really I'm doing it for him." He didn't look at Wilbur, keeping his eyes on the staircase.
Wilbur nodded slowly, allowing the other to steer him towards the staircase. He glanced at Quackity, his eyes full of gratitude. "Thank you Quackity."
Quackity nodded, "Of course Wilbur."
And the duo made their way out of Pogtopia. Leaving it for good.
