Tommy POV

Tommy made his way to his next class, happy that the day was nearly over. He wanted nothing more than to go home. Wiping his drying tears away, he stepped into the classroom. English. One of the only classes he actually enjoyed.

There were several reasons to why that was case. For one the teacher was cool. He was respectful and kind, always willing to help out with anything and everything. He was one of Tommy's favorite teachers. He had never treated Tommy differently for being adopted and he had never tried to compare the blonde to his older brothers. For once in his life, Tommy felt more like a person than another number.

The other main reason was all the kids in the class were advanced. Meaning they were all kind to him. None of his bullies were in the class which meant it was his safe space. He could simply be himself in there. Plus no one minded all the jokes he made. In fact, they actually laughed at them.

So walking into the class, Tommy was nothing but happy. But despite the bright smile on his face, Mr. Lennon didn't miss the tear stains. He carefully approached Tommy, a look of genuine concern reflecting. "Are you alright Tommy?"

The blonde looked up at him, nodding solemnly. "Rough day, that's all." He smiled up at the teacher, hoping to show that he was better. "But I'm better now." But Mr. Lennon could see right through it. He had watched the boy go through everything, from bullies to arguments. He knew when Tommy lied. It was all in his blue eyes. They were duller than usual.

"What happened?" he questioned, ignoring the bell as it rung. Tommy was more important right now. And obviously the rest of the class wasn't complaining about class starting a little later.

Tommy shrugged, looking down at his new shoes. Phil had bought them for him only a week after he had moved in. It was one of the nicest gestures anyone had ever done for him. "I-I'm just overreacting."

The teacher chuckled, knowing that was the last possible answer. "Tommy, you may be a lot of things. But you are not someone who overreacts."

"A lot of things?" he raised an eyebrow, causing Mr. Lennon to groan.

"You know what I mean!" the man exclaimed, a look of pride in his eyes. "You're smart, kind, funny, loyal, maybe a little obnoxious at times-"

"Hey!"

"Tommy, how many times have you stopped the lesson to tell the class one of your ridiculous jokes?" he reminded him. The humor never left his eyes. It was always there, even when Tommy did get on the teacher's nerves.

It was true that Tommy disrupted the class often with his jokes. But no one really minded. Everyone loved to watch the bright smile that formed on the blonde's face when he heard laughter. Even when the jokes weren't funny, they laughed.

"You know you love them." Tommy laughed, making Mr. Lennon smile back.

The man didn't admit it, but it was true. "But we're getting off topic." he rounded back to his original question. "What happened?"

Tommy sighed, silently glad that the man was so concerned. "Miss Harper kept calling me that name again." He shook his head, not allowing the voices to come back.

Mr. Lennon stiffened at the answer. Running a hand through his hair, he looked like he was about to punch someone. This conversation wasn't new, it actually happened quite often. And yet, he still get furious every time. Like Tommy, he hated the teacher with a burning passion. If he was employed at the same school, he would have thrown hands at the woman. No one messed with Tommy.

The man took a deep breath, allowing the tension to leave his body. "Don't listen to a word she says. She's an idiot. If we weren't in school I would call her something even more accurate... but I can't." He shook his head. "I'm sorry you have to worry about bi- I mean teachers like her."

Tommy giggled, earning a smile from the teacher. The blonde grinned up at him, grateful for the words he had said. "Thank you Mr. Lennon. At least I have this class to make my day better."

"Exactly." he agreed. He looked back down at the boy, offering, "If you ever need to escape her prison, my door is always open."

Tommy nodded gratefully. "Thank you."

Mr. Lennon stepped towards the front of the classroom, finally preparing for class to actually start. Tommy leaned back in his chair, enjoying the class around him.

Maybe the day wasn't so bad after all.

But it wasn't over yet.
