Phil POV

Phil did everything he could for his kids. He tried to give them the life they had always deserved. After everything they had been through, he tried to make up for the childhoods they lost.

From organizing family movie nights to calming them down from panic attacks, he was always there. He refused to even entertain the idea of leaving them or sending them away. Every struggle they encountered was worth it. His sons were the world to him.

But work got harder. He spent more and more time at his job, struggling to keep up on all the papers. All while Techno and Wilbur were planning on going to college. Both of which were very expensive to the point to where he needed to get another job. He was constantly trying to help Tommy through high school, offering support through homework and driving him everywhere.

But even Phil had a breaking point. And one day he hit it hard.

Peeling his eyes open at the sound of his blaring alarm clock, he groaned. Soreness crawled up his throat, sending him into a coughing fit. Struggling to catch  a full breath, he realized he was sick. Rubbing his bloodshot eyes, he thought of what to do.

He couldn't go to work like this... could he? A violent sneeze quickly told him no. But they could use the money... More coughing. Shaking his head, he knew he just couldn't. With guilt pooling in his chest, he called off work.

He glanced towards his clock. 5:35am. Maybe sleep would help him feel better. That seemed like the perfect remedy for his worsening illness.

So he climbed back into bed, pulling the covers close to his chin. Closing his eyes, he fell into a dreamless sleep.

Techno POV

Techno perked up from his bed, glancing towards the door. Was that coughing? It was too raspy to be Tommy's... His eyes drifted towards his twin across the room. And Wilbur was in here. Concern spread through his veins rapidly. Phil was sick.

The clock in his room said 11:45am. That meant there was plenty of time to make his father lunch, even if it was a bit early. A small smile spread through his face. They could take care of him the way he took care of them.

He slipped out of bed and rushed to wake Wilbur up. He couldn't do anything without his partner in crime. "Wilbur! Wake up!"

The brunette rolled over to face his brother. "Technooooo.... it's Saturday!" he complained.

"And Phil's sick and we need to take care of him!" Techno exclaimed. That was enough for Wilbur sit up straight.

"Phil's never sick." he commented, looking at the pinkette suspiciously.

"You know how hard he's been working lately. It was only a matter of time before he caught something." Techno tapped his foot impatiently.

"How do I-" he was cut off by another coughing fit, more harsh than the last. Rolling his eyes, he groaned, "Never mind."

"Come on! Let's go make him breakfast to help him feel better!" the older jumped off his bed, heading towards the door.

Wilbur followed, "What if he can't stomach anything? We don't want to make him feel worse."

Techno hesitated, his hand on the doorknob. "Well anything is better than nothing. Besides, you know how good Miss Kristin's soup works. He always makes it for us when we're sick."

The duo carefully slipped out into the hallway, trying not to make a sound. The goal was not to awaken Tommy. The blonde would be bouncing off the wall which would definitely wake Phil up. They silently made their way to the kitchen.

Techno stood on his tippy toes, grabbing the recipe from the cabinet. They had to make it just like Miss Kristin did. Wilbur got out a pot, carefully filling it with water.

The two boys worked together, managing to make a bowl of soup for their father. They stood back to admire their work before carefully pouring into a bowl. Wilbur grabbed a spoon before following after Techno, who was walking towards Phil's room.

They were only a step away when another door opened. There stood a tired Tommy, rubbing his eyes. He looked up at the older two. "What's going on?"

"Phil's sick, so we need you to be really quiet, okay?" Wilbur whispered, exchanging a look with Techno. Just once they were hoping he would take the request seriously.

Much to their surprise, Tommy nodded. He headed towards the kitchen, slipping past the older two. Techno and Wilbur slowly creaked open Phil's door and entered. Their father lay, tangled in the sheets. He was barely dozing, sniffing through his clogged nose.

"Do we have to wake him up?" Wilbur asked, looking a the man guiltily.

Techno nodded, setting the soup on his dresser. "This will help him feel better." He gently nudged his father awake.

"Techno?" Phil yawned, blinking his eyes open. "I'll be up in a-"

"Dad we know you're sick. So you're staying in bed until you feel better." Techno left no room for arguments, reaching for the soup and offering it to the man. "We made Miss Kristin's soup?"

"Thank you boys." Phil smiled, slowly eating spoonful by spoonful. He glanced towards the clock, a look of panic filling his features. "I should really-"

But Wilbur didn't let him get up. "Let us take care of you." he insisted.

"But I-"

Footsteps approached the bed and in came Tommy, with a wet washcloth in his hands. "I thought this might help you." he offered with a bright smile. Phil took it, laying it across his forehead and letting out a relieved sigh.

Techno smiled at the younger, earning an even bigger grin in response. "Please let us take care of you." he begged.

Phil bit his lip, opening his mouth to respond when the youngest cut him off.

"It's not optional Dad, Techno's just being polite."

Phil laughed, coughing into his sleeves. "What did I do to deserve you boys." He smiled.

The three of them chuckled, but Techno answered the question.

"You were the father we never had."

Phil teared up at that. He gave up fighting against his sons and agreed to stay in bed for the rest of the day. Their time was spent watching movies and making sure Phil was comfortable.

And Phil never regretted his decision. He wouldn't change his sons for the world.
