Techno POV
Techno had never wanted a plane ride to end so badly in his life. It was the complete opposite of what he usually felt. Usually he would love plane rides. Ten hours to himself with no one to stop him from reading his favorite book. It was a dream for him. But not this plane ride.
Every minute felt like a year, with Techno's fingers drumming against the armrest. He didn't even realize he was doing it until the person next to him begged him to stop.
The clock was agonizing, but the no internet made it worse. He had no way to know what was happening. Whether Tommy was okay or not. His best friend could be laying in a hospital bed, clinging to his last moments and here Techno was, just begging for the plane to fly faster.
Techno checked his phone, groaning at the time. It had barely been an hour. At least nine hours left. How on earth was he going to do this? Could he really sit through the entire trip without knowing? The answer was simple. He had to. He didn't have a choice and he hated it.
Most of all, he hated not being there for his friends. Phil was probably trying to keep it all together, offering what little support he could manage. The man was hollow shell. On the inside he was always panicking. And Wilbur, God, Techno didn't want to think about how he was doing. Just the thought of anything happening to Tommy was enough to send him into a panic attack. Wilbur would do anything for the kid and Techno knew that. After all, he felt the same way.
Techno leaned back in his chair, deciding that sleep was his best option. Just let the worry drift away, one moment at a time.
And for one, fate was kind to him.
But it wasn't to Tommy.
-----------
The taxi couldn't drive fast enough, not for Techno anyway. Even with a big tip and a pair of pleading eyes, the car just couldn't reach the speed Techno wanted. The taxi driver drove over the speed limit, sweating around every turn at the idea of getting caught.
Techno kept his eyes glued to the window, hoping for some kind of a distraction. It was his first time in England. If the circumstances weren't so stressful, Techno would have found beauty in the buildings. But just looking at them, reminded him of Tommy. The kid in the hospital bed.
Phil had called him as soon as he landed, giving Techno just a little bit of hope. But it wasn't enough to calm him. And there was more to what Phil was telling him. Something wasn't right. There was some crucial detail, something that would have completed the story. But Techno didn't press for answers. He decided he would ask upon arrival.
The car ride seemed to go by quicker, either by some luck or the taxi driver's generosity. The taxi stopped at the steps of the hospital. Techno was about to jump out when the driver stopped him. Looking him dead in the eyes, he said, "I hope your friend is okay. You'll be in my prayers."
It was supposed to be comforting, but it only seemed to terrify Techno more. But he smiled and thanked the man before running up the stairs. If there was a God, Tommy wouldn't be in this mess. No God that Techno was willing to believe in would have done this to the kid. Tommy was the best kid Techno had ever met. God would never have made that mistake.
He rushed to the front desk, again drumming his fingers on the counter. This time no one seemed to mind. The woman looked up at him, Techno saw the sympathy in her eyes. His jaw tightened. "I'm here to see Tommy."
She raised an eyebrow, "I'll need more than that, sir."
"Thomas Simons," he hated the name on his tongue.
There was a burst of typing before she read off the room name. She had barely finished her sentence before Techno was down the hall. He didn't even bother knocking, bursting through the door. But then he stopped, his eyes wide.
There sat an empty bed.
