Tommy POV
Tubbo could barely make it through the whole story without breaking down. The more he talked, the more he wished he could have stopped it. He had known Tommy wasn't feeling doo. He should have called Techno and Wilbur as soon as he realized something was off. How could he-
"Tubs, it's not your fault." Wilbur knelt in front of him, a forgiving smile forming on his lips. "I'm glad you were with him."
"I'm sorry! I-"
"Tubbo it's-"
"But it's not! I might never see my best friend ever again!" His mind jumped to conclusions, running a million miles a minute. He just couldn't get that image out of his head. Seeing Tommy limp and lifeless was something he never wanted to relive.
Phil opened his mouth to reassure him, but footsteps quickly interrupted. A doctor walked towards them, a look of distress on his face. Sensing his words, Tubbo feared the worst. "Family of Thomas Minecraft?"
Tubbo was about to protest, but Phil spoke up, "Yes." Glancing sideways at Tubbo, he asked, "Is Tommy okay?"
The doctor sighed, "Yes..." Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, but Tubbo kept his eyes on the man. There was more, he could tell. "But he will have a long road to recovery."
Wilbur stared at him, "How severe were his injuries?"
"He was lucky in the sense that none of his injuries were life threatening. But he broke several bones and has a major concussion." he explained.
"Tommy is strong." Techno commented with a glare towards the man.
The doctor agreed, stepping back a step. "But there is something else..." he paused, considering his words. "We found that Tommy has an almost life threatening case of the flu. We are treating it now, but any longer and it could have caused damage to his brain."
"It was that high?" Tubbo's heart dropped in his chest.
"You knew?" Wilbur turned to him.
The brunette nodded solemnly. "He was acting strange all day. I tried to make him call Phil, but he said you were at work!" Closing his eyes, he hated the way that it sounded.
Techno rolled his eyes, "Leave it to Tommy to hide an illness."
"Can we see him?" Phil pressed, shifting his weight from foot to foot.
"Of course. Right this way." the doctor head the way through the halls, keeping a calm smile on his face. Tubbo counted the doors as they passed, terrified as they passed each one. Techno moved beside him, meeting his eyes.
"Are you okay?" he mouthed.
Tubbo nodded, barely taking note of Techno's expression. He would be okay as soon as he knew Tommy was okay. A few more minutes passed before the doctor came to a door. Taking a deep breath, he opened the door and stepped aside.
One step into the room and it seemed like all time stopped. His eyes welled with tears at the sight of Tommy. He was so pale, so lifeless. He could have easily been mistaken for a corpse. Tommy had several apparent injuries, ranging from casts on his arms to a bandage wrapped around his head. The beeping of the heart monitor was the only thing keeping Tubbo grounded.
The doctor paused, "He should be waking up soon. If you need anything, just press this button and a nurse will come to help." He pointed towards a small button near the head of the bed. With a nod from Phil, he left the room.
Tubbo pulled a seat by Tommy's bedside, adamant with not leaving his side until he woke up. Around the room, the others did the same thing.
Wilbur ran a hand through the blonde's hair, carefully smoothing out the knots. "How could we not have noticed? How could we have not seen how sick he was?"
"You know Tommy, he hates when we fuss over him." Techno scoffed, his eyes scanning over the blonde for any source of movement. "He's the cause of his own problems really."
"I wish he would just accept it! We're allowed to care about him, the same way he's allowed to care about us." Wilbur complained.
"It's just the way he grew up." Phil sighed, his eyes falling on the boy.
A groan made them all turn their attention to the blonde. Slowly, but surely, two bright blue eyes blinked back at them. Immediately he looked away, seemingly already having put together where he was and what he was doing here.
"Don't ever do that again Tommy." Techno said sternly, his voice showing more emotion than Tubbo had ever heard before.
Tommy bit his lip, attempting to move his arm. He glared at the cast before sighing, "I felt fine this morning."
"Liar." Tubbo called him out, knowing full well that Tommy did not, in fact, feel fine. He could count on two hands how many times Tommy had zoned out.
Tommy didn't say anything, finding more interest in fidgeting with the sheets.
"There's no shame in being sick Toms." Phil began, resting his hand on the boy's shoulder. "We just need to know, so we can take care of you."
"I can take care of myself." he mumbled.
"Clearly not." Tubbo scoffed. "Your in the hospital because you thought you could take care of yourself."
Tommy glared at him, "Who's side are you on?"
"The side where you don't end up in the hospital!" Tubbo retorted.
A nurse entered the room, a gentle smile on her face. "Good to see you're up Thomas." she grinned. She took her time, ignoring the tension in the room as she checked his vitals. "If you allow yourself to rest, you should be able to be discharged in the next few days." With one final check, she left the room.
Tommy still refused to meet anyone's eyes, hating the words that were about to come out of his life. "You're still going to baby me, aren't you?"
"Obviously!"
