Tommy POV

Tommy looked into the mirror once more. Was this really happening? Was he really about to become the official prince? He still couldn't wrap his brain around it. Only a few months ago he had shown up cold and alone, heart broken with no hopes of ever being cared for again.

He had expected to be thrown back to the streets, to be treated like he had always been. But they surprised him. They took him in, showing him the most kindness he had ever received in his entire life. Dream took him in as a little brother. And Tubbo never left his side, becoming his best friend almost instantly.

He was accepted by the people very quickly, everyone loving his bright spirit. He would constantly wander into the town, seeking out ways to help people. And he always made a point to meet everyone he could. The town adored the way he could make everyone laugh. So when the coronation was presented, the entire town joined in to prepare. To say Tommy was grateful would be an understatement.

A knock on the door dragged him out of his thoughts. Barely sparing a glance away from the mirror, he called, "Come in."

The door swung open and in strolled Tubbo. His eyes were bright with excitement. "You ready?" The brunette could barely stand still, it was a wonder how his own crown hadn't slipped off.

Tommy sighed, turning away from him. He wished he could share his excitement. But his thoughts plagued any excitement he could have felt. He couldn't lie. Fear spread through his veins like a poison. "I don't know." he admitted, hating himself for it.

Tubbo frowned, concern masking his face. He approached the blonde, hoping to help in anyway he could. "What's wrong?"

The blonde ran a hand through his hair, trying to come up with an answer. Something was nagging at him, raising his nerves. "What if people get upset with me being crowned? I'm not technically related to you and-"

Tubbo stopped him right there. "Everyone is beyond thrilled for you to officially become a part of the family. You have nothing to worry about. I mean, how can they not like you?" He reassured.

Tommy buried his face in his hands. What was wrong with him? He should be nothing aside from grateful. He should be thanking them for everything. Yet here he was, doubting their confidence in him. "I'm sorry..."

"Don't be." the brunette piped up, offering a smile. "I was nervous for my coronation too. But Dream helped me through it. So now it's my turn to help you."

Tommy took a deep breath, finding the reassurance in his words. What did he do to deserve this? How could anyone be this kind to him? He wasn't sure he would ever understand it.

"Thank you." he smiled, watching Tubbo grin back. Somehow he never lost his excitement.

Tubbo grabbed his arm, beginning to pull him towards the door. "Now come on! We're going to be late!"

Before Tommy could even think, they were running through the halls towards the front entrance. Laughing as they went, the blonde felt so much better. With Tubbo by his side he felt free. They passed window after window, basking in the sunlight that seeped in.

They reached their destination much quicker than Tommy wanted. As soon as he spotted the huge doors, he skidded to a stop. All his nerves and emotions came flooding back, forcing his heart to pound. Tubbo stopped ahead of him, turning to face him. His grin faded and he offered a hand to the boy. "You can do this Toms. I know you can."

Panicked blue eyes met brown. "What if I can't? What if... what if they were right?"

Tubbo rolled his eyes at the mere mention of his old family. "Would I ever lie to you?" His hand hovered, outstretched, waiting for a response.
