Techno POV

"We need to get rid of him."

Techno's head shot up at his words. Wilbur sat beside the pinkette, leaning against an old log they had moved closer to the fire. Phil had fallen asleep a few feet away, Tommy cuddled safely against his chest. The fire crackled at their feet, illuminating the piles of supplies around them. An old iron pot cooled on the edge of the fire, the last few drops of soup sizzling to the bottom. The horses grazed a few feet away, their heads often surveying the area at the slightest sound.

"I'm not happy about him joining us either, but I don't think that's the answer," Techno spoke carefully. Soft snores swirled around them, smudging the peaceful sound of crickets. Techno poked a stick in the fire, realigning the logs into a teepee shape. "He is just a kid."

"He's a problem," Wilbur huffed. "Because of him, we have to take the long way!" Instead of taking the short cut through the valley, like they always did, Phil had insisted on changing their course. He wanted to follow the route that hid them in the safety of the trees, following the river back to the house. But that also added an entire day onto their trip. "We're lucky we even have enough food for all of us."

"He doesn't eat that much," Techno commented.

Wilbur's hand clenched into a fist. "What is this?! I thought you'd agree with me!"

"I do." his hand fell back to his side. "Honestly, I'm still hoping Phil changes his mind with the whole idea. But that doesn't mean I want to literally "get rid" of the kid." Techno glanced back towards Phil. "He'd be heartbroken."

"I don't see why," Wilbur rolled his eyes. "He's gotten by fine with just us. Why does it have to change?"

Again, Techno shrugged. "Kristin will have the final say."

"You know she'll take him in without another thought. She's as bad as Phil!" Wilbur groaned. He leaned forward a bit as a thought struck him. "They can't see how many problems this kid is going to bring. So, we need to show them."

"Again, I'm not killing a defenseless kid."

"No, no." Wilbur smiled, "Getting rid of him doesn't involve killing him."

"You're suggesting giving him away," Techno raised an eyebrow. He thought for a moment, "It would be impossible to separate the two of them. If Phil isn't with Tommy, Kristin surely will be. And if we come back without him, we'll be the immediate suspects."

Wilbur glared at him. Did he have to filter though the idea that quickly? "Once they realize what we've done, they'll be relieved!"

Techno frowned. "Yes, because your plans always work so flawlessly."

"They do!"

"Should I remind you about your plan of going on a hunt alone in hopes of impressing dad? I still remember how sick you got from that expedition after being stupid enough not to bring a coat."

"That was one time-" Wilbur began.

"Or when you tried to ride that wild horse in hopes of taming it for Kristin? Do you remember the pain of that broken rib? Or-"

"Okay, I get it! Not everything I plan works out well," Wilbur admitted, running a hand through his hair. He snapped, looking towards his solution. "But this time I have you, Tech. And your plans always succeed."

"Only because they're not half as stupid as yours," Techno smirked. Which was true. Techno didn't get himself into trouble nearly as much as Wilbur did. Between the two of them, he was the perfect role model, only really getting in trouble for being too competitive or being far too petty for his own good. But the moment Wilbur thought he had gotten his brother on his side, Techno shook his head. "I don't know, Wilbur. I still don't think this is a great idea."

"We can send him to Puffy! She's always looking for a new crewmember!" he exclaimed. Puffy was a good friend of theirs. She was the captain of a huge ship, the ship that Phil and Kristin had first met on. Kristin had been her first mate, ordering around the crew while maintaining her own orders. Phil had just been an old traveler wanting to trust someone.

"A crewmember," Techno clarified. "Not a baby."

"You and I both know she'd take him in. She can't resist those innocent eyes." Wilbur folded his arms. Puffy had adopted children a few times before, raising them on the seas before encouraging them to follow their own path. She had even helped Phil find Techno. "Come on, Tech. Do you really want that kid stealing all the attention?"

Techno thought for a moment, really considering what Wilbur was asking. The brunette crossed his fingers, hoping it was enough. Deep down, he knew that Techno was as jealous as he was. With a baby stealing all the attention, they both felt that there would be nothing left for them. After all, they were old enough to go out on their own if they really wanted, even old enough to be kicked out. And with a new baby, that would simply bring that reality to life.

There was still so much Wilbur wanted. He wanted Phil to take him on one of his annual trips to the nether, the ones he had always been told were too dangerous. He wanted Kristin to show him how to make her special angel cake, the kind she used to make just for him. Most of all, he just wanted his family to stay the same.

Finally, Techno sighed, "Alright. But we'll have to be careful. We have to act like we love Tommy... like we're excited to have him as a little brother."

Wilbur smirked, "Like I ever wanted a little brother."
