Tommy POV

Tommy couldn't do this anymore. He just couldn't. One glance at his crown was enough to make him sick. He sunk further into his bed, wishing the world away. The room around him was bland, with cream walls and old carpet. There was nothing but a cracked mirror and a small dresser and yet the room still seemed crowded.

A small window stood at the edge of the room, overlooking the looming forest below. Some days he would just sit and wait beside it. Wait for someone to miss him. Wait for someone to even try to come looking for him. But with every dinner and breakfast he missed, there was never a knock.

He wasn't even well known throughout the kingdom. After all, there was nothing special about him. No gift in music. No god like fencing skills. No, he was just Tommy. And apparently that wasn't enough.

Tommy had always managed to stay positive through his youth, always looking towards the next sunrise. Just one more day and it will be his moment, his time to shine. But with every passing sunset, that hope seemed to drain more and more. He hardly ever left his room anymore.

Things turned for worse as soon as he started showing up. The poor little village boy who stole everyone's hearts. The poor little village boy who was more like a prince than he could ever be. A gifted swordsman. A polite young man. He could even sing along with Wilbur to where it sounded good. Better than he had ever sounded.

Tommy hated him. He hated that he was everything that his family wanted to be. He was flawless to where his mistakes were overlooked. He wasn't ridiculed for every little thing. Instead he was encouraged and praised. The way everyone looked at him was what Tommy had always dreamed of. With love and care.

The blonde slowly sat up in bed, his head hanging low. He couldn't take it anymore. They were already calling him Prince Ranboo. And here Tommy was, still being mistaken as a servant most of the time. His dull eyes drifted back towards the window, where a sun was setting. Would they even miss him?

He knew the answer. They would probably be relieved. They would blame it on an accident. Something like him getting lost or something. Tommy could see his funeral from a mile away. If they would even organize something like that. They probably wouldn't because doing that meant he existed in the first place.

He stood up, tying a cloak around his neck. He had made up his mind. He was done with this life. There had to be something else for him out there. He just needed to find it. Swinging his prepacked bag over his shoulder, he took a deep breath.

There was no point in even sneaking out. He was invisible. Pushing his door open, he walked into the hallway. Much to his surprise, he barely got three steps in when someone called out for him. "Prince Tommy!"

He paused, unsure if he heard the words correctly. Slowly turning on his heel, he found a boy rushing towards him. His eyes narrowed as he recognized Techno's cape and Wilbur's old sweater. Ranboo was more a part of the family than he was.

"Hey Prince Ranboo." he nodded respectfully, attempting to keep the venom out of his voice. It wasn't his fault, he reminded himself. You can't blame him for being liked more.

"Prince?" the boy echoed, giving him a strange look. "Who said I was a prince?"

Tommy shrugged, attempting to joke, "You're more of a prince than me."

Ranboo shifted from foot to foot. "I don't think so... I seem to be messing up most of the time to be honest."

The blonde rolled his eyes. Did he have to be humble too? "Well, it just takes some time to get used to." He tried to turn back towards his original direction in the hopes that Ranboo would run off again.

Instead it had the opposite effect. "Where are you going? Dad didn't mention you going on any trips."

Tommy swallowed. He didn't even call his own father Dad. What gave him the right to do that? Wiping a coming tear, he took a deep breath. "He probably forgot." If he even remembered Tommy existed in the first place.

Ranboo thought for a moment before his face lit up with an idea. "Well, can I go with you?" His face shined with excitement.

The blonde actually felt guilty breaking that joy. "No, you belong here."

His face fell at his words. He thought for a moment, tugging at Techno's cape. "It's really cold out there... I bet Techno's cape would keep you warm better than that old cloak." He began to unclasp the cape, but Tommy stopped him.

It wasn't his to give away. And as much as Tommy had longed to feel the warmth and softness of that cape, he wanted Techno to give it to him. But it would never happen. "No, it suits you. Besides, I'll be alright."

Ranboo nodded, his hands falling to his sides. "Will you be gone long?" he questioned.

Tommy hesitated, knowing he couldn't tell the truth. "I don't know." he admitted. "Maybe."

"You'll come back right? I was hoping to play with you."

The blonde's eyes widened. Play with him? "Why can't the others play with you? I'm sure they're better company."

"They're boring!" Ranboo exclaimed, throwing his arms up. "No one's as much fun as you!" He smiled brightly, the innocence radiating off of him.

No wonder everyone adored him so much. He was impossible not to love. Reluctantly, Tommy told him, "I probably won't be back for a while."

"Then I'll wait for you!" the boy declared.

Tommy chuckled, hesitating before ruffling the boy's hair. "You're a good kid." His heart cracked as he said the words. He could never be Ranboo. He could never be half as good enough. He was arrogant and loud. He was annoying to the point where his own family avoided being around him.

"But you'll always be better." Ranboo giggled.

Tommy didn't know what to say to that. He was wrong on every level. Ranboo was leagues better than him. Without a final word, he turned on his heel and headed towards the front entrance. He didn't want Ranboo to see him cry as he walked, keeping his head down.

But right before he reached the door, a voice called out to him. "Bye Tommy!"

Tommy barely spared him a glance before leaving for the last time.

It was better this way.
