Why is Life so Hard? (Tommy angst)(2/2)

Tommy POV

"It's a good thing we found him when we did!"

"He's still not awake though..."

"The doctor says that healing will take time."

"I hope he wakes up before we have to leave again," a hand gently combed through his hair. Tommy kept his eyes closed as he slowly came back to his senses. Who was talking? 

"It's too bad we had to meet him like this."

"Well, we're here for him now," the voice closest to him replied. 

"Wil... Wilbur?" Tommy murmured. He could barely tell if he spoke the words aloud. Thankfully, the gasps around him seemed to answer his own answer. The hand continued to brush through his hair. The blonde couldn't help but lean into the comforting touch.

Soft chuckles arose around him, but Wilbur only pulled the boy closer. "We're here Toms, we're all here." Tommy smiled at sound of his best friend. He blinked his eyes open slowly to the sight of the people he considered family.

Phil sighed, running a hand through his unkept hair. "You gave us quite the scare mate."

"Scare? He gave us a heart attack!" Techno exclaimed, slamming his hand down on the bedside table.

Tommy jumped, attempting to hide in Wilbur's arms. The brunette's grip tightened as he glared at Techno. "He just woke up Tech. Calm down."

"No, he needs to understand what he put us through!" Tommy had never heard that kind of panic in Techno's voice. "What would have happened if your parents hadn't found you?! Our best friend would have been gone... We never would have even met you in person. You would have been gone." Tears formed in the older's eyes. "Did you ever think about how we would feel?"

Tommy swallowed back the lump in his throat. The world had seemed so small around him. It felt like he had been the only one in it. "I-I wasn't thinking Tech... I didn't think anyone cared."

"How stupid can you be?" Techno threw his hands up. "Didn't you hear us messaging you? Calling in hopes of getting through to you?! Only the people who care about you would bother with that." Techno buried his face in his hands. He sighed, mumbling words that were barely audible. "I don't know what I would have done if we lost you."

Taking a deep breath, Tommy carefully moved closer to Techno. He reached for his hand, squeezing with as much strength as he could muster. "I'm still here, Tech."

Techno squeezed back, "Don't ever do that again... Please."

Tommy closed his eyes, remembering all of his feelings. Could he really make that promise? With everything going on... But one look into Techno's eyes and he knew he had to. After all, he would do anything for Techno, for any of them really.

"I... I promise." The three of them engulfed him in a hug. Tommy leaned into it. And for the first time in his life, he intended to keep that promise... No matter how hard life got.
