After receiving the Egg from Naomi, Mew and her friends make their way to New Bark Town to deliver it to Professor Elm's lab. Once arriving, Mew plans to register for the Johto League Silver Conference. Right now, Mew and her friends are having a lunch break.

"How's the egg doing, Mew?" Molly asks.

"It's doing fine," Mew says.

"I can't wait to see what this egg hatches too," Tomo says.

Brock then says, "I bet it's the egg of a legendary Pokémon. Probably a super rare one."

"Really? Do you think so, Brock?" Mew questions.

"No way," Misty says.

"Maybe it's a brand new kind of Pokemon?" Jen suggests.

"It could be a Mythical Pokemon," Tomo adds.

Suddenly, the egg starts to glow.

"The egg is glowing!" Molly says, surprised.

The egg is about to hatch!" Tomo says.

Mew and the others eagerly wait for the egg to hatch, but it stops glowing.

"Another false alarm," Brock says.

"Yeah, its glow is gone. Guess that means it wasn't quite ready to hatch," Misty says.

"Maybe it's just warming up," Mew says.

She then brings out a blanket, wraps it, and rocks it like a baby.

"Hmm, if it is a legendary Pokemon, would it be a new kind or something else," Mew says.

"Probably," Brock says.

Unknown to the group, Team Rocket spies from nearby.

"How'd the twerps get ahold of an unhatched, legendary Pokémon?" Jessie questions.

Meowth then says, "Nevah mind dat, da real question's how do we get ahold of it?"

"Then again, she has this strange thing of luck of finding and hatching rare Pokemon, including Legendary Pokemon," James says, "I never heard of a legendary Pokémon egg, other than the twerpette's."

"Because it's very rare, which is why we're gonna go grab it for ourselves," Jessie says.

James and Meowth cheers, "Yay!"

Suddenly, the egg begins to glow again.

"The egg, it's glowing again!" Tomo says.

Just then, the Pokemon egg cracks, bursts, and reveals the newborn Pokemon.

A small, green reptilian Pokémon with rocky skin. It has a blunt spike on top of its head, a short, rounded snout, and triangular, black markings below and on the upper corners of its eyes. Red scales cover its diamond-shaped belly, and there are several small diamond-shaped holes in its body. Its short arms lack fingers, while its feet have a single toenail each. It has a tail with a conical center surrounded by a ring of plate-like scales, causing it to resemble a tunnel-boring machine.

And the Pokemon is fast asleep.

"It hatched," Jen says.

"Hey, it's a Larvitar," Mew says.

"Larvitar," Misty questions.

Mew brings out her Pokedex and Dexter says, "Larvitar, the Rock Skin Pokémon, and the pre-evolved form of a Tyranitar. Rock and Ground Type. A Larvitar generally hatch deep within the earth and take a long time before coming to the surface.

"So it's a Larvitar," Tomo says.

"It wasn't a legendary Pokémon after all," Jen says.

"No, but it's extremely rare," Brock says.
