Summary: Peter Parker, not Spider-Man but Peter Parker, is a hero. A shoulder to cry on. A friend to anyone in need. But, of course, he doesn't know that so it's a surprise when his class starts reading out their essays on their heroes. In front of the Avengers, news crews, and the entire school.

Warning ⚠️: Slight hints to depression and death.

The hall was full of people, parents, teachers, students, reporters and the Avengers.

The Avengers had asked the school if they would allow them to watch the 'My hero' speeches. Which, of course, they received an immediate 'yes' to. Now they were sitting a few rows back, watching the first fifteen or so speeches in boredom, before a girl came out.

"Hey Midtown, My name is MJ and my hero is Peter Parker. He may not fight crime like a superhero but every single weekday he goes to the little orphanage on West street and walks the children to school.

He doesn't care if he's late or he has missed something. He doesn't care if it's rain or shine. He walks those orphans to school so that no one will take advantage of them while they're alone.

Peter once told me 'I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something happened to one of them while walking to or from school. So I will go every single day to make sure nothing bad happens to them.' That is why Peter Parker is my hero."

MJ walked off the stage, the hall silent. No one knew that Peter walked orphans to school.

Betty went next, nervously pushing pieces of blonde hair behind her ears.

"Peter Benjamin Parker is my hero because on top of his school work, he works 24 hours a week so that he and his Aunt can stay on top of the bills. He gives up his weekends just to keep his home safe and nearly works himself to the grave to do so.

I couldn't imagine working while my schoolwork load is so high. I rarely sleep for more than six hours a night just from homework alone, so I'd hate to think of Peter's sleep schedule.

I, like many people that attend this school, have the luxury of being very well off. Before I met Peter i didn't understand why someone just didn't get money from their parents if they wanted it. Thanks to him, now I know that money doesn't grow on trees and you need to earn it."

Then Abe walked onto the stage, a large grin forming on his face as he spoke.

"Hello my name is Abe and this is my 'My hero' essay. Peter Parker is my hero because he helps the struggling students with their homework every Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school, even when he hasn't completed his own. He is the soul reason I passed my Spanish class last semester and I will be forever grateful for that.

Last year when I asked him why he did this and he surprised me with his response. He answered with 'Not everyone is good with school but everyone should have the opportunity to get better' which I will never forget. This is why my classmate, Peter, is my hero."

Cindy continued the chain, opening her paper with a sad smile.

"My hero is Peter Parker because he was not just there for me, but almost every member of my class when we were at our lowest. No matter who was hurting, no matter why they were hurt, he was always there and will always be. Since the first time that I met him he has been a shoulder to cry on.

He supported me when my boyfriend cheated on me. Helped one of my best friends when she came out as Bi. He even hacked into a twitter account to stop people from spreading fake rumours about one of the 9th graders."

Ned went last, a faint frown on his lips. He knew that his best friend did all those things but he never thought much about it.

"Peter Parker is my hero because he wakes up every morning. As his best friend, I know he's been through hardships that would make even the strongest of men want to curl in a ball and die.

He has lost all but one member of his family but instead of giving up, he continues trying and hasn't stopped or given up. I hope to never have to go through half of the things he has and that is why he is my hero."

The hall was quite. No one spoke or moved as Peter walked onto the stage, going last.

"Hi, my name is Peter Parker. Lots of people say 'My hero is Barack Obama' or 'My hero is Captain America' but my hero is different.

Not many people know this but May Parker, my Aunt, is not biologically related to me. Her late husband Benjamin Parker, my uncle, was my father's brother. When my uncle passed away she had a choice whether to keep me or ship me off to a foster home.

She chose to keep me.

She works everyday to pay the bills then attempts to cook dinner even though she can't make toast without burning it. She does her best everyday and makes sure that I know she loves me. That is why May Parker is my hero."

You know in a movie when someone says an inspirational thing and everyone starts cheering? That's what happened.

People stood up and cheered. Cheered for the students. Cheered for the heroes of the students. But, most importantly, they cheered for Peter.

How could one person, one teenage boy, have gone through such hardships and doubt and yet still tried to help others?

No one knows, but we do know what happened after that day.

When May got to work the next morning she was surprised to be congratulated by everyone.

Congratulated for being the hero of a hero.

It seems that articles had been written about Peter that day, not Spider-Man but Peter Parker.
