Luke's POV
Dad won't talk to me the rest of the day. I've tried several times. Right before bed I try again.
I knock on their bedroom door and wait for one of them to answer. I normally don't bother them when the door is shut. But I feel like it tonight.
Dad opens the door, and stares at me hard. It's only ten, but he's about ready to go to bed. He's just in underwear.
"Can we please talk now?" I ask him quietly.
He sighs and shakes his head. "I'm going to bed. I have shift in the morning."
"Please, dad. I know I messed up."
"Night, Luke" he says, shutting the door in my face.
I just stand there, staring at the closed door.
"You didn't need to shut the door on him, Taylor. He feels awful" I can hear mom say through the closed door.
"Doesn't matter. The guy that killed my mom felt awful too." He says. I can hear him climbing into bed and I see the light from under their door shut off.
I go back to my room and cry myself to sleep.
The next morning I wake up and go downstairs. Dad is getting ready and throwing stuff into his work bag.
"Now will you talk to me?" I ask him, sitting on the barstool next to him.
He sighs and shakes his head. "Luke, leave it be" he says as he throws his phone and charger in the bag and zips it up.
Mom comes downstairs and gives dad a kiss goodbye.
"Come home to me, Chief" she says gently.
"We're all coming home, baby girl" he says, kissing her again and leaving silently.
I just stare at her. "Would you just spank me?" I ask, surprising myself.
"What?" She asks, surprised too.
"I can't take this anymore. Will you please just do it?"
"No. You've got to figure out how to fix this"
"Mom, how am I supposed to do that? He won't even look at me."
She sighs and kisses my cheek. "You're going to have to figure it out."
All day I think about how I can fix this. I honestly don't have a clue. Around 5, I can't handle it anymore. I go downstairs.
"Can I go out for a bit?" I ask mom.
She gives me a hard look. "Lucas, how many times do I have to tell you? You're an adult now. If you want to leave, leave."
I roll my eyes. I don't want to be an adult anymore. I actually don't think I technically am. It's so much easier when your parents make the decisions for you.
I just nod. "I'll be back in a bit" I say, kissing her cheek and grabbing my keys.
I drive to the station and sit in my car for a few minutes, trying to work up the nerve. I finally just get out of the car and start walking. I feel like I'm about to throw up.
I get in and I see Liam right away. He comes over to me and pulls me into a hug. I fold into him and let him hold me. It feels nice. I've wanted it to be my dad since yesterday, but Liam will have to do.
"How you doing, Luke?" He asks softly, kissing my head.
"Awful. He won't even look at me" I sniff.
Liam sighs and hugs me tighter. "He will. You're just going to have to give him some time."
I just nod. "Is he in his office?"
