Ellie's POV
The next couple of weeks go great. Nolan is back to acting like he did before Justin took him. We still have a long way to go with him, but both Taylor and I are feeling optimistic.
Tonight is the night of Shay's next performance. We always go on opening night.
For as shy and quiet as Shay is, when she is performing, she becomes electric. She is a completely different version of herself. She is a phenomenal actress.
We all go. Sasha was even able to skip her night class to make it. Savannah, Izzy, and Josie stayed behind to watch the toddlers, since there's no way they would be quiet for so long.
We get our seats, and chit chat quietly with each other until it starts.
Luke can't take his eyes off of Shay. She is almost always the lead, and she almost always brings us to tears.
We're about 45 minutes into the play when I look over. Nolan is sitting next to Colton and Dylan, and he's on his phone. I get Alex's attention (he's sitting behind Nolan) and motion for him to tell him to put it away.
I see Alex tap Nolan on the shoulder, and whisper. Nolan immediately puts his phone away.
During intermission, I walk down the row and bend down so I'm not making a scene. "I better not see your phone out again, young man," I whisper.
"Sorry," he says simply.
I give him another look as I go and sit down next to Taylor again.
"What's wrong?"
"He was on his phone."
Taylor rolls his eyes, but doesn't say anything.
During the second half of the play, I'm really getting into it. Something catches my attention, and I turn to look. That twerp is on his phone again. I'm able to get Alex's attention again, and motion for him to take the phone.
He again taps Nolan's shoulder, and puts his hand out. Nolan gives him a look, but doesn't argue as he places the phone in his hand and slumps down in his seat. I'm furious.
When the play is over, and we get out of the theatre, I grab Nolan by the bicep and drag him into a corner of the lobby.
"Why were you being rude?"
"I wasn't," he says, acting bored.
"Why were you on your phone again?"
"I don't know"
I sigh and give him a hard look. "We will talk about it later," I say quietly.
He just nods, and we walk silently back to the group.
Taylor looks at both of us, but doesn't say anything.
We drive home in silence. I'm not happy, and Nolan probably isn't either. As soon as we get home, I turn on him.
"Get to your room, young man."
He nods as he silently goes upstairs.
"Looks like we're spanking him again already," I say, shaking my head in disgust.
"No we're not," Taylor says quietly.
"Huh?"
"Ellie, that play was insanely long. I was honestly getting tired of sitting there at the end," he whispers. Shay and Luke aren't home, thankfully.
"The play was spectacular," I say, mad.
"I didn't say that. It was great and she was amazing. I'm just saying that almost 3 hours for a play is entirely too long."
