Ellie's POV

I'm in the lunchroom talking to Ronnie, Brant, and Paisley. They're nice, but I don't have much in common with them. Ronnie and Brant are talking about Quantum Physics. Who knew people actually talked about this?

As they're discussing hydrogen atoms, I start to zone out. This is definitely boring. Paisley thinks so too, so we start talking about the play that her drama students are doing for the fall program. She's a sweet little thing. I don't really have anything in common with her, but she's kind.

I see Liam walk into the lounge. He has a weird look on his face.

"What's up, kid?" I ask with a smile.

"Why aren't you sitting where you normally do?" He asks with an attitude.

His tone surprises me. "I haven't for a couple months now. What's up?"

"Why not?"

"I just haven't, Liam. What do you need?" I'm not appreciating his attitude with me right now.

"I need your keys."

"For my car?"

"No. The house."

"You have keys to the house."

"Thanks, captain. I know that. I forgot my keys in my pocket when I went on a call last shift, and they fell out on the scene. I can't find them."

"Nora has a set too."

"Mom, knock it off. I know she does but she isn't home. She took the baby and went up North to visit her friend for the day."

I am seriously getting annoyed by his tone.

"Taylor is off today, kid."

He sighs as he rolls his eyes. "You're getting on my nerves. Taylor and Wes went away for the day. Dad and Lilah aren't home. I need to get in the damn house. Can you please just give me your keys?"

"They're in my office. Go get them" I snap.

He rolls his eyes as he leaves silently.

"Sorry, guys. He's not normally such a crank," I say, embarrassed. I have no idea what's been going on with him these last few months.

About five minutes later, he comes back in, and he's not happy.

"I can't find them," he snaps.

I sigh and roll my eyes. "You do know that Mason has a set. You could have just asked him."

I notice that the group looks at each other funny. Crap. Most people still don't know that Mason lives with us.

Liam just glares at me.

"Come on, ya big crank," I say as I stand up and throw my food away. We walk into the cafeteria, because it's the closest way to my office. We pass the old table. McKenna is sitting in my old spot now, next to Lance. I miss that table so much.

"Hey guys," Nick says, waving us over.

Liam walks over, and squeezes Nick's shoulder.

"How's it going?" Nick asks us.

"Fine. Do you have the keys to the house on you?" Liam asks Mason.

Mason shakes his head. "They're in my room"

Liam turns to me. "See? Could you hurry?" He snaps.

I glare at him, ignoring the stares from everybody.

"Talk to me like this for one more second, and you won't get them at all," I say, darkly.

Liam is unfazed. "Come on. How hard is it to get me some keys?"
