" Haaahhh.... Haaahhhh...."
I opened my eyes after what seemed like only a few seconds, but the area around us had changed so much. What was a forested area all around us looked like a wasteland, everyone around us was okay, however. There's no doubt that it was due to Jaime's Defensive Spell.
" Are.... Is everyone still alive?"
A tired Jaime spoke up, her concern came through each of her words.
" Yes..."
" Still breathing..."
" Yeah... Good job stopping that... What was that?"
Myself then Lucy and then Laura... We all answered, but Laura wondered aloud what hit us. Jaime seemed to have a hint about what it was, judging by the way she's looking around like she was assessing something.
" It... It was a spell... It's a combination spell... The magic is hard to pull off though... Ms. Ethel said that you need to fully mix and match your mana together with someone else... If you can though, the spell's power is multiplied... But... Something like what just hit us.... It must be from 5 or more Mages... It must be how they want to break the Barrier Spell over the village... We need to defeat them... I need a Mana Potion... Or 10...."
" On it... You deserve it."
" What about you Laura? You buffed me right before that spell clashed with mine, right?"
" Yeah... I could use one..."
" I guess that means we're on guard duty, Ash?"
" Yeah... Looks like it, Lucy."
With Jaime's explanation over, we quickly got into a simple formation. Lucy and I in the front and Laura and Jaime behind us drinking Mana Potions from Laura's Mana Storage. Jaime also has access to the spell, but since she's on the verge of passing out from Mana Exhaustion, Laura decided to take from her stock.
" Hang on, you four! We'll help you. I mean, we'd all be dead without you 4 anyways. Guys! Line up! We can't let them do all the work! Or do you want to sleep forever!?"
" Raahh!"
Despite their cheers, the Shield Users that Jaime protected along with us were hobbling to encircle around Laura and Jaime as they restored their mana. Eventually, Laura got tired of how slow they were moving.
" Divine Healing!"
A pale white spell covered the Shield Users, and I could see their wounds rapidly healing as well as their complexations improving. It looks like we won't have to worry about them for now, having said that...
/ Rumble! Rumble! CLANG! CLANG! RUMBLE! RUMBLE!/
Heavy footsteps were growing louder and louder amongst the sounds of swords clashing in the distance from where we were. The fighting at the center of this battle is beginning to intensify, but still, the Demons can still find more soldiers to send down to us.
" 10.. 11..."
" It's 20, Ashley... 20 Demons are coming. Think you can handle it?"
Laura interrupted me while I was counting the number of enemies coming our way. I was only doing it for fun, but I guess she doesn't want to lose her nerve. She asked if I could still fight them. I almost wanted to laugh.
/ Smack!/
I thrust my fist into my palm as I remembered all of the insane training that Mr. Mark put me through before. I still remember the worst of it. The day Mr. Mark told me about the 100-man sparring that I'd have to do for the day. I groaned and was irritated with him and all of my opponents, but now that I'm here on a battlefield, I finally realize why I needed to train my endurance and stamina so much.
