" Well... Would any of you like to explain what it is?"
After the deafening silence after asking about the "Sharing Tradition", I asked again if anyone was willing to explain it to me. I thought the way that Charlotte was acting was strange, but this confirmed it to me. I mean, if Del and Lady Kate were playing a prank on me at her expense, I'd be a little angry. Charlotte's a shy person by nature. Sure, she'll put on a brave face when working as Chief Of Staff, but besides that, I don't see her really speaking to anyone outside of our friend group. Even when the citizens come up to her, she struggles to find the words to answer them.
* Pull.*
I guess my looking at Del and Lady Kate was beginning to get uncomfortable, since Charlotte pulled me by my sleeve to get my attention.
" It's not Del and Kate trying to pull a prank or anything. This is something that I wanted to do, Matthew."
Charlotte's words surprised me. For some reason, she began to blush after she explained how I was wrong. Before moving on in the conversation, I looked back at a somewhat surprised looking Del and Lady Kate.
" Before moving on, sorry, I thought you both might've been up to something at the expense of Charlotte."
" Don't worry about it, Marquess Drake. I'm sure some things can be confusing."
" I'd never do something like that to you two, Matthew."
" Right."
They accepted my apology rather quickly. I guess I don't need to worry about consequences for this... But still... What the hell was Lady Angie talking about? I looked at Charlotte and I began to ask the simple question.
" Say, Charlotte. If it's not a prank, what exactly is the " Sharing Tradition"?"
" Its.... Its when-"
" Say, how's everyone enjoying the food?"
Before I could get the words out of my mouth, a familiar voice interrupted me. We all turned to look to see King Leonard and Queen Crystal approaching us. Queen Crystal's arms were wrapped around King Leonard's right arm and they were dressed in fine robes that showed they were both King and Queen of the Dark Elves. There was lone glaring issue with them though, I could see from the lines under their eyes that they were really tired. I guess they must've gone around and greeted everyone at the tables and we must be the last ones. They quickly made their way to us, the same way a marathon runner approaches the finish line I'd imagine.
" Why the long face, Matthew? Did the food not match your palette? We thought about giving you a plate of different meats and vegetables, but Charlotte said you'd probably like the snail pasta. Or did you not like the peach cake?"
King Leonard seemed to think that I had an issue with the food. I quickly began to explain the food was fine.
" No, the food was fine. Am I really wearing such a weird face? I didn't mean to? Even though it is a funeral, I get that we're supposed to be thankful to still be alive. And I am."
" I see... Thank goodness. I'd hate it if you'd dislike the food."
I nodded to King Leonard's words so I could show that i wasn't lying. After King Leonard's worries were gone, the obvious question was asked by Queen Crystal.
" So, if it's not the food, what exactly is the problem, Matthew?"
Queen Crystal, even while tired seemed pretty interested in what my issue was. I looked at everyone on the table and they all looked like kids who've been caught by their parents during a prank. But, Charlotte said that it wasn't a prank and it was her idea... I may as well give it a shot with them I guess?
