John Ericsson's Point Of View
" Good... Keep me informed on how the development of outposts 40 through 55 goes. Once we get a good idea on development time, we'll be able to add the needed amount of builders to expedite the process."
" Yes, Sir!"
The Outpost Project's Field Leader, Old Man Vernon gave a spirited reply as i finished up the end of our meeting. I was able to erect the 8 Main Outposts positioned around Paradise over the past week. Basically we positioned the outposts at North, South, East, West, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest in relation to Paradise. From there, we've referred to the map that we drew up around a year ago for the placement of the smaller outposts all around the Roselands until we hit either the dividing line between Diablos-owned land and what's seen as wildlands. As well as having them placed in strategic positions for any travelers on the main road from the Eastern Border to Paradise. I noticed on the way back to Paradise as I laid down the special concrete that Gil made that more or less, once you step past the Eastern Border, any towns or villages are few and far between. Outside of Zana, FallenRoack, Skion and Trapda, the villages and smaller settlements have no rhyme or reason with their placements. I suppose it makes sense in a way. From what I understand about the history of the Roselands, Paradise used to be... Well, what it's like now because of my influence. A great city where you could make money, find leisure and enjoy the sights of the natural wonders of the lands around Paradise. But after the Water Goddess cursed the lands, the commerce dried up and people simply followed the money inland. Now all that's left are the people that were too stubborn to move, had a flow of cash that was interrupted, or simply decided they didn't want to live in towns inside the borders. Either way, because of this, outside of the 4 main towns that still stands as well as Paradise, there's really nothing to find on the journey to Paradise if you follow the main road. Sure, Zana, Fallenroack and Skion aren't too dfifficult to travel to, but Trapda is probably now the most isolated town since the lands around Paradise have returned to normal instead of being swamplands... Now I feel somewhat bad about it... Maybe I should send Count Ed a gift basket or something? Anyways, while traveling the road, it felt somewhat isolating... Not just that, but it's apparently not so safe either. So far, I've received reports of only B-Rank monsters appearing on the roads around dusk and during the night, but I don't like the idea of more ferocious monsters appearing.
" Lord Drake. Please, take care of yourself, my team and I will make it so you won't have to lift a finger! We'll make sure you'll be able to get some rest now!"
" That would certainly be nice, Vernon. I'll entrust you with that work. Also, do remember to have all of the teams take their breaks, I don't want anyone collapsing from overwork or from hypothermia or frostbite, okay?"
" Will do, Lord Drake! Have a good day!"
/ Clank!/
Old Man Vernon left the room after his spirited reply to my request. Nearly all of my subordinates have begun to treat me almost like I'm made of glass ever since I returned from Bestia. I'm not completely sure why? I mean, yeah, I did just get back from Bestia and the whole kidnapping thing, but I made it back pretty okay for the most part? The town even continued to run completely fine without me? I hope the people aren't going to become to anxious... Even if everything goes well and I make it to a ripe old age, I'm still probably going to die before even Rodrick passes away. That's just the reality of the difference in lifespans between Humans and Demons. Hell, Aqua and Warrick are already in their 90s I think? From what I understand Demons can last anywhere from 1000 to 4000 years if they care for themselves well. It's just that Demons usually don't last that long because of their thirst for fighting. But either way, I don't know how I'm going to feel on my deathbed if all of the people in this city aren't self-reliant by that point... Maybe I need to put more faith in the Academy's curriculum? Either that, or maybe I'll need to find a decent successor?
