Everyone had a smile on their face from what Mother Andrea had said. I thought things were moving in a good direction as I asked Mother Andrea if there was anything else she'd like to know.
" So, Mother. With that answered, is there anything else you'd like to know?"
" Hm? Yes, there is."
I was surprised to hear her answer, even more so as she seemed to be smiling as she spoke. It was the first smile I've seen her flash since we arrived back home. I waited to see what it was that Mother wanted... But I wasn't ready to hear what she had to say. Nor the fact that her smile faded as she asked me the next question.
" I want to know when you fell for the Human."
" Wha..."
" You like the Human, Sis? Are you crazy?"
I was shocked by what Mother had said... I mean, I haven't told any of My Family yet about him... How does she know? The only one that should know is Aunt Aqua...
" Even if that were the case, what does that have to do with anything right now!?"
I did my best to keep my composure. I thought I did an okay job, but the looks on everyone's faces tells me I may not have done as good a job as I wished I did.
" Well, fine... Let's put that aside for now..."
She knows... She's trying to avoid Adam from knowing, but she knows... I need to talk about something else...
" What about that episode in Zana? Al told me that you ended up fighting an enemy. I was worried, but he told me that you were able to defeat it. In fact, you landed the most important blow against it. Is that true?"
" Hm? Yes... I mentioned during the battle that because of my Job, I had several ambushing Skills along with my regular combat abilities. Despite me needing to be saved... Time and time again that night, he chose to trust me. It was at that moment that I realized he really was serious about forgetting the past. I didn't want to fail him... I didn't want us to die, and it was with those kinds of feelings that I was able to eventually land the perfect blows to bring us to victory."
" Oh, I see... So, he does trust you. How does that make you feel?"
" Hm?"
My Mother asked another strange question. I thought about it for a moment before I could really form an answer.
" I... I'm both thankful he does, but it also feels complicated, if I'm being honest."
" What's complicated about it?"
" Because I'm a Princess, that's why."
" What?"
Adam seemed confused, but I'm sure in time he'll find himself in a similar situation to me. Hopefully it'll be with someone he wants to be friends with, unlike me.
" How could that be an issue?"
My Mother continued to prod. I had to find a way to answer this without bringing up my obvious intentions. That's still a far way away, even if I already know what dress I'll be wearing when we marry, that's something for the future. Once we raise him to the status he needs to be for us all to marry him. It'll happen soon, we've already planted the seeds. But with all of the planning... It just makes me realize how simple the world is for people who aren't born into Royalty or Nobility.
" Because I'm a Princess and he's a Marquess, we're never truly on equal footing. There's a... Wall, I guess you could call it. I can tell that he doesn't truly open up to me in the same way he will with Sarah and Anna."
