Chapter 487. A Needed Term

" Well, this is going to be hectic... Rubin, you're dismissed, we've prepared a bed for you, get a good night's rest then welcome your squad back tomorrow. I expect a report to be compiled tomorrow evening."

" Yes, Your Majesty."

With King Leonard's questioning finished, he released Rubin to go and rest. Now the only people in the Throne Room were King Leonard, Queen Crystal, Del, Lady Kate, Charlotte and me.... Well, there're guards to, but they seem to want to only be seen, not heard.

" Okay, with the report that's come in, Paradise is safe to return to. Like We said before, We can't stop you from going back, Matthew. At least now we know that we're not just letting you walk into a warzone."

I nodded to Queen Crystal's words. It sounded like it would be fine for Charlotte and I to head back to Paradise. Granted, we still had some information to think about. Rubin had explained how the road leading from Paradise to Darkheim was in bad shape. It was apparently muddy and hard to find footing. After he left, I could feel everyone's eyes fall onto me. To be fair, I didn't use the same material as what I used to make the roads for Zana and Blackstone, this was due to Gil telling us about all of the metals and gems that were below the road. That and I really just looked at the road as a prototype and a proof of concept for what I wanted to do with the road to Blackstone. That being said, there's a lot I'd do different now that I didn't do back then. Because of those mistakes, the road, while not in disrepair, does need some work done... Having said all of that, I should probably broach the topic myself instead of King Leonard trying to think of a way to bring it up.

" So... I take it you've all heard about the roads I've built that connect Zana as well as Blackstone to Paradise?"

" Yes... We've been made aware..."

King Leonard seemed to be acting quite coy when it came to this subject. Seeing with everything that's happened... It'd be a bit difficult to ask me to remake the road from Darkheim to Paradise. Because of this, I could see the wheels turning in King Leonard's head as he tried to figure out how to ask. It's a bit strange, since he kind of just needs to ask. Maybe it'd be hard to do that seeing as he's a King? Well, they are going to be granting my request to investigate the cabin, even if technically, it might benefit the Alliance we're all a part of... I guess I could sweeten the deal for them.

" Having said that, would it be too presumptuous of me to assume you'd like me to do the same from Darkheim to Paradise, King Leonard?"

King Leonard seemed surprised at my word choice, I didn't think it was too strange.

" It's okay, King Leonard, this conversation can stay between the people in this room."

" Well... It would be nice?"

" Okay then! If that's the case, for allowing me to bring a squad of researchers to take a look at the cabin that, Charlotte, Princess Cynthia and I found a few weeks ago. On the return trip from their investigation, I'll remake the road from Darkheim to Paradise. Would that be satisfactory,. King Leonard? Queen Crystal?"

" You'd build a road for simply having our people investigate a cabin? You realize they might not even find anything, right?"

Queen Crystal brought up the most likely outcome of the investigation, but regardless, I don't really want to find anything that could connect to the plans the Elves have. I mean, it would be nice if that was the case, but in actuality, I really just want to make sure that My People are safe, as long as the Dark Elves can guarantee that from taking a look at the cabin, that's more than enough value for a better road. Besides, it's been a while since I've traveled anywhere with Sarah and Anna. I'm sure they'd like to take a short break from everything and just enjoy some time together... Though... Now that I think about it, Alice will also be along for the ride as well... I wonder how that'll work out? Regardless, I should allay their doubts about it.
