Chapter 491. Arriving at Phoenix Wing

" Alright, come on in!"

With the shouting of the City Guard telling us we could enter the town, the carriage we were in began to move forward at a decent speed as the driver directed the horses where to go. We had now entered Phoenix Wing, the biggest city in the Western part of Promethia. Taking a look at the thick walls that surrounded the town gave the feeling of being protected, the walls themselves seemed to be around 15 feet thick and were around 5 or 6 stories high if I were to guess as we rode through what was the Eastern Gate of the city.

" Hey, Laura, did you see all of the guys at the top of the wall? It looks like they've beefed up their security compared to Phoenix Tail."

" Yeah, it looks like it. I guess the town doesn't feel as safe as Phoenix Tail? If I had to guess it's due to the Adventurer population being lower, but even with that, I think it might be the failing of whatever Lord is supposed to govern this town."

Ashley spoke to me after bringing her head back into the carriage from looking out of the window to her right. Unlike last time, we've been given 2 carriages this time, we decided to seperate the men and the women for our travels. Mostly it was due to the fact that us girls had decided to spend this month of travel Tempering our Mana. Because of that, Ashley and Lucy had both ascended to Intermediate Advancement. Though it definitely shows that Lucy is much more talented when it comes to her mana than Ashley. It's taken a little over 2 years for Ashley to Advance finally and it's only taken Lucy around 3 weeks total of Tempering. Ashley's problem seems to be that she loses focus too easily while trying to concentrate on Tempering. As for Jaime and I... Well, I'm still stuck at Advanced and just yesterday she finally made it to Master Advancement. It was a happy moment for us all. Jaime's been working so hard since we learned about Mana Tempering and now the entire air around her is different. I can't explain it well, but if she's not careful, a certain kind of pressure begins to pour out of her, it's like a weight gets added to her surroundings. Why do I bring this up? Well...

" Ahh.... Jaime... Jaime... Focus up!"

Lucy called out to Jaime, I could see a cold sweat forming on her cheek.

" Huh? Sorry Lucy! I'm still figuring out how to work it!"

 as Jaime apologized, I couldn't help but remember a lot of time yesterday was spent trying to figure out how to stop that pressure from forming so the horses could pull us here to Phoenix Wing.  Eventually, she figured out the trick to it... For the most part... I say that because I don't know how it works really... From what she told us, when we were first learning about mana, it was explained that it was kind of like water to a degree. But for Jaime now, she said it was like trying to control " air" instead. None of the girls understood what she meant, but Jesse agreed with her. He explained that it was excess mana that was escaping from her body since she wasn't properly controlling it yet since it was all new to her. He ended up explaining to us that once you reach Master Advancement, you gain a new understanding about mana. Apparently from Master Advancement forward, your mana becomes more and more powerful and that also means it begins to influence your surroundings if you can't control it. Apparently, the influence on your surroundings will become worse and worse without proper control. To the point that if a Master or higher loses complete control of their mana, they could cause great destruction. From what Jessie said, it seems like an unstable Master could level a city block at worse, a Grandmaster could destroy an entire section of a large city like Whitestone and a Mythic Mage would be able to level the whole of Whitestone full stop. It was somewhat scary to hear, but I... No, we need that type of power if we're going to topple Diablos eventually.
