Chapter 472. Learn The Truth, Take Advantage Of An Opportunity

" Well that explains a few things!"

" Yes, now some of his... " Quirks", make more sense."

" Quirks?"

Emily seemed to think that I have some " quirks" that apparently seemed strange to her... But I thought that I acted pretty normal for the most part... Well, aside from creating ice cream and everything else with my company... I'd say I've been pretty normal besides that?

" Yes, the way you speak and the way you view your responsibilities as a Noble... They're quite different compared to an average Human, I'd say. The biggest signifier that something about you is strange is probably the attitude you use when it comes to your servants and other commoners. Even the ones who would be considered " benevolent" to them, are more or less apathetic. Granted, there are exceptions, but they usually only prove the rule overall, which is what I thought you were, but I guess not... John."

Emily explained what she meant... I guess I did stick out like a sore thumb to some then... But wait...

" Wait, is that why the citizens are acting like they are then? Are they just scared to lose me because they think I'm a softy?"

" Absolutely not! John! How could you even think that was the case, John! They act that way because you've shown that you value them, John! They don't want to lose you because you're important to us, John! People are already raising their children with the idea that they'll be useful to you in the future, John!"

" Ruby, I understand that it's important that he gets the idea, but I feel like you're using this as an excuse to use his real name now. Besides, don't yell it, he kept it a secret for a reason all this time."

Emily began to reprimand Ruby for shouting... And something else that didn't make much sense to me? Well, I guess it might not feel great to learn I've been lying to them for the past year... Regardless, after calming down, Ruby began to speak again.

" Anyways, Mat... I mean, John, the citizens don't want to take advantage of you, they all want to help you, because you've helped them so much. People who thought they'd never be able to walk again, be able to hug their loved ones, hold a sword, or a knife and fork for that matter, all fixed, doing what they love. And they all have you to thank for that. If anyone were to try and take advantage of you from inside the walls of Paradise, I doubt they'd live long after the discovery of their schemes."

" Don't you think it's a bit much? Just because they want to try and make money off of me or something?"

" Absolutely not. John, you need to remember how this town... No, you've made it into a city now... You need to remember what it was like, what it is now, what we were like and what we're like now. You've worked miracles that no one would dare hope for. You're lucky that the citizenry had accepted that you like life being uneventful, otherwise I'm pretty sure they'd begin to treat you like a religious artifact."

I could only rub the side of my head from what Ruby said. Not so much because of her words, but because I can tell from the expression on her face and tone in her voice that she's serious...

" To help with Ruby's explanation, like I said, you've acted far from the norm, I don't even think that the " better" Nobles I told you about would've gone as far as you have. You've healed them, fed them and given them a real home with true faith and hope that there will be a better tomorrow. Honestly, if you'd say you'd like to rebel against the crown, I wouldn't be shocked if around 90% of the population of Paradise would go along with your whims. That's just the level of loyalty most of them would be willing to go to for you."

" I'd never put them in danger like that. Besides, I'm loyal to Warrick, no matter what."

To Emily's idea, I couldn't help but say the first thing that came to my mind. Emily quickly replied to my statement.
