                                                                Garth Fairsword's Point Of View

" Stop firing at him! He's already too far for our spells to reach him!"

I shouted at the idiots still wasting their mana trying to hit that Giant Hawk. It was useless, whenever anyone got close, a Magic Barrier was made that blocked the spell. Whoever was riding that Giant Hawk was going to be a problem... Maybe the leader of the scouts of the demons? Regardless, I can't dwell on it for too long, I need to ready the Cannonier Tanks for another salvo against the demons. So far, the attacks have done great damage to them. The only issue is that the Tanks require time to recharge their arsenals, we used them all up and from what I was told, it'll take another 20 minutes... Time... It always comes down to time on the battlefield when you're the Commanding Officer. Time for Logistics to arrive with supplies, time to march, time to mount an offense... Time to rest... It's never ending. And now I simply need to have a watchful eye kept on our enemies at all times. It's good that I have the men for the job and so far everything is going well. I didn't count on a Giant Hawk however.

" Sir! We've failed to land an offensive spell on the Giant Hawk that's flying away, what are your orders, Sir!?"

" We wait."

" Wait?"

" Did you just question my orders?"

" N.. No, Sir!"

" Good, tell your men what I've just said, get going."

" Sir!"

With that, the soldier walked away. Even if this situation that's been put into our laps is different than what we expected it to be, I won't be allowing my subordinates to question me. To question the Commanding Officer is to effectively begin to have the authority of the Chain Of Command begin to break. I can't have that now. Not when this mission has failed so terribly. I suppose it could be left up to the foolishness  of the Top Brass? They simply wanted to wait and play the long game. Break their defenses with long, sustained volleys of Highly destructive spells. But as most of the 10 Great Elves warned, the demons eventually launched a counter offensive. Now I have no clue where my pupils have gone. If only the fools in the High Elf Blades led by that foolish wench Janus. Wanting to do this as low-risk as possible has made us rest on our laurels too long and caused us great losses. Granted, I believe any Citizen of Alfheim losing their life to any of these 3 lesser races to be a great loss. If only they all could simply fall in line and allow their betters to rule over them as we should. But I shouldn't reflect on what could be, I need to be focused on what's going to happen after this engagement with the enemy is over.

" Sir! Captain Dimitri reporting!"

As I was beginning to take a look at the lay of the land after our bombardment of it, a voice called out to me. I turned to see Captain Dimitri Julo speaking to me. He was the leader of the Cannoniers who were managing the tanks and currently refilling them. I assumed he was here to report about the condition the tanks were in. This was their first test run after all. The reason it took me so long to get to the demons that attacked my men was because I decided that now would be a great time to test the new invention of the Research Division. Colonel Varyx sent them to me, marching double time all the while. They were tired, but the marching couldn't stop. We had to march just as fiercely to make here and even then, we were almost too late. All because I knew the leader would've placed scouts directly behind his marching troops. We had to divert our own march to ensure we had the advantage of surprise. Along with putting the tanks into the correct position it took longer than I thought. I'll be putting this in the reports when I get back so the Research Division can work on these issues. Speaking of which.
