I cut him down... Another Elf... The battle just began but that was the 3rd. I made sure that the Squad I was in command of were all made up of Demons from Paradise, that's made life so much easier compared to the battle a few days ago. No real questions about my decisions and instead they follow them without resistance, because of that, the Elves have surrounded us, but so far, not a single Demon has fallen, Elves? Yes, quite a few. I'd imagine my squad is probably doing the best out of the others right now. It was good to see, it means that I just needed to watch out for a sign from someone else instead of my group.
/ Thump! Clang!/
Just as I took a look to the sky for a moment, to see if there was a sign, an Elf thought to try and attack me, I quickly blocked his attack with Scarlet.
" What? Thought that would get me?"
" No, but this..."
/ Thump! Boom!/
The Elf had a shocked look on his face, I couldn't help but make a comment, this was the wrong option as the Elf raised his hand and I could feel the mana begin to gather in it. I quickly shifted my weight and forced him to fall forward as the spell came flying out, he tried to turn his hand to still hit me, but the Elf couldn't stop the magic in time and it shot out and hit the ground. Smoke began to waft up and cover the area that the Elf was currently picking himself up from.
/ Thoop! Thoop! Thoop!/
3 shots of magic came flying out of the smoke at me, I quickly tried to dodge, 1 flew by my left ear, the other followed after it, that was good... But now a fireball the size of a cannonball was flying at my head.
* Grip!*
/ Slash!/
I tightened my hand around Scarlet and I quickly slashed it right down the center of it's mass. I didn't know why I did... It... It just felt right? The fireball disappeared like dust in a strong wind... But the feeling when I cut through the fireball... Why did it feel different?
/ DING!/
" Oh..."
With the sound of the ding, I realized what happened. Right now, I don't have Holy Mana Blade activated, all the times I've tried to cut magic with Scarlet, it's been with Holy Mana Blade activated, right now I don't have it active and I cut the fireball with Scarlet's naked blade. And I think that was the trick to learning Magic Cutter. Or at least, that's what I assumed I just unlocked with that slash at the fireball. Something seems fishy to me though... Why wouldn't it let me learn it with my Mana Blade active? If that is the case, will the Skill work with Holy Mana Blade active? Wait!
/ Thoop! Thoop!/
Like I thought! I got too involved in thinking about the Skill! The Elf launched another attack!
/ Thump! Slash!/
I quickly dodged the first spell and I cut the other. With the danger over, I quickly ran up to the Elf that was visible now and I raised Scarlet to cut him down. He tried to defend with his own sword, but I could see that he wasn't too confident in his own swordsmanship, I bent my knees and shifted Scarlet horizontally and I swung her.
/Slash!/
" Ah..."
/ Thump!/
He fell on the ground like the last Elf and the enemy was now one less strong. I looked to the sky again and I couldn't see any signals that was good. it means we were doing well. The Elves must be tired from having to march at the same pace as Demons for the past few days. That's the only explanation I can think of for being able to hang on this long. The Demons around me were pretty spry if I was being honest, from my Holy Heal, an unintended side effect that I hadn't even thought about happened, I cleared all the fatigue that the soldiers had. I only really noticed as we charged into the Elves' position that the Demons seemed spirited, like this was their first battle during this journey. They happily cut into Elves as well as cutting and breaking the Elves weapons. For the first time in a long time, I actually felt like I was the one lacking stamina, or at least that was how I thought it was until I connected the dots. At the end of the day, it was really good that it happened, we wouldn't be lasting this long if not for that fact.
