John Ericsson's Point Of View
" And you're sure they're all armed?"
" That's what I said, didn't I?"
" Fair enough... Alright, so in all we have 948 Demons here... And the Elves are at least 2000 strong, I think their full numbers are around 2500..."
" Well your grand plan should even the odds, right?"
" I'm not sure, I haven't ever used it before."
" Are you even sure it will work?"
" Yes, I have all of the needed requirements, it's just that I've never used it before."
I was currently walking around making sure that all of the soldiers were in proper position for the Elves, it's nothing amazing, I've decided that small squads of around 80 soldiers was the best idea. The Elves will probably attack as one strong force, so multiple attackers from different angles to divert attention should be able to work. But they're still an issue... God... Why couldn't the Elves have taken another day to catch up to us? They've been occupying my mind the last few minutes, mostly because by my estimate they should be arriving at any minute. The walk wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't for the fact that Lieutenant Tala had decided to tag along with me and she is asking questions that I tried to ignore as best as I could.
" So, you're going to gamble our lives on an educated guess?"
" No, it'll work, that's why I've been meditating for the past hour. I know I have enough mana to be able to use my Spell and still be able to fight."
" Why are you so sure about this?"
" Because I know I can do it. I haven't used the spell before, but that's because the parameters hadn't been met. There was one opportunity, but I thought it best to just cut the head of the snake. This time though... I can't do it alone."
" ..."
Lieutenant Tala wasn't apparently expecting me to say something like that, I looked at her and saw that she was somewhat bewildered by my words... I guess I should follow up with something. I quickly said the first thing that came to my mind.
" And to be fair, the Elves used their tanks for the first time today. It's only fair we try something new as well."
" How do you know that?"
" The assault and the size of the platoon of tanks. If this wasn't the first time they'd have something like 3 or 4 rows, that way it would be a continuous volley of attacks."
" ..."
" What?"
" Nothing... It's just... I didn't.... How does someone think of something like that?"
" Like what? The way to make it a continuous volley? It's because I know of a similar way of attack. Are you telling me that throughout the history of Diablos, none of the magically inclined enemies used continuous volleys of spells before?"
" I... I wouldn't know? The only thing I can say for sure is that the battles I've had with Humans have never done that before."
" Then you've been very lucky. I'll have to ask a Historian about that, if there hasn't been an attempt to try it... That could prove to be a powerful weapon for future close quarters battles."
" You..."
" What?"
Lieutenant Tala looked at me with a different emotion behind her eyes. It was like she wasn't sure if I was an ally or enemy. She looked at me with a similar look before, only it would usually be full of distrust, but this time... I could've sworn I saw fear. Despite that, Lieutenant Tala began to speak to me again.
