/CLANG!/

" This is 50%!?"

" More or less! Hyah!"

/ Thump!/

" This is too much for active recovery!"

/ CRASH! SHING!/

" I thought these swords were dulled!?"

" They are! That's why the wall is still unphased! Dodge this one!"

/ SHING! CLANG!/

" You're taking this too far for a sparring session!"

" What do you mean!? Me and Warrick do this all the time! Hahahaha!"

King Alan and John had begun their sparring session. We were led to a wide-open space inside the castle after Queen Andrea had left us earlier. After picking a dulled sparring sword, John and King Alan went over the rules of the sparring session. Since they were going to go " easy" for the sparring session, John said he wouldn't be using magic and King Alan wouldn't stress his body since this was only supposed to be light exercise. The fighting had been going on for around 5 minutes so far. John has been on the defensive and attempting to figure out how best to handle King Alan's attacks. On one hand, it's good that he's not being hit by any of the attacks, he's been able to guard or dodge at just the right moment, on the other hand...

" Stop watching and start fighting, Matthew!"

King Alan shouted out what I was also thinking about. John's fighting style relies heavily on him figuring out the opponent's tells so he can adjust and counter accordingly. The only issue was...

/ CLANG!/

" AH!"

/ WOOSH! CRASH!/

That method of fighting can only work against someone who's equal in speed or slower than he is. Granted, this is only when he's forced to use nothing but his swordsmanship or martial arts. When he uses his magic, he has extra layers of defense and attacking options that help even out his analysis of his opponent. Either way, in order to get truly stronger, he's going to need to learn how to attack without analyzing his opponent 100% first. If he doesn't...

/ SHING! CLANG!/

" What are you waiting for!?"

King Alan seems to also agree with my thinking. John can't afford to sit back and wait when it comes to opponents that are stronger than him, he's just asking to be attacked and defeated after his defenses are cut through. King Alan seemed to come to the same conclusion after crossing swords a few times with John. He's now beginning to push John in their battle. He's trying to beat that habit out of John. I wonder if it'll be effective in only this brief sparring session?

" You're taking this really seriously!"

" Training doesn't work unless you take it seriously!"

/ CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!/

" You're definitely not taking it easy on your arm!"

" And would you look at this! It's holding up just as good as if it'd been attached all along! Hahaha! Your magic is something special, Matthew!"

/ CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!/

John and King Alan exchanged some words as King Alan began to attack at any perceived opening he could find. Perhaps there's no greater example that King Alan was taking it easy on John than the fact this fight is still continuing. I do wonder what it was that King Warrick told to King Alan that made him want to spar John so badly, but now that we're here, I suppose it's best to hope that John can learn something valuable from this experience. It would definitely make us visiting here worth something aside from healing King Alan.
