The box was mere inches away from my fingers as the two of us fell. I stretched my hand out as far as I could my fingers brushing against it.
It was so close... just a little more...
I tried to extend my fingers even further but it was impossible. We were falling fast and I couldn't move much due to the wind pressure.
I glanced down to see what was below.
Panic was slowly beginning to take over.
There was many small cliffs directly over the cliff I had just jumped from.
The faster I went down the faster I was bound to hit one, but I still needed to grab the box. If I didnt grab it, it would keep going down without me. I was running out of time before I smacked right down.
Capitano was still counting on me. We couldn't lose it now.
I made a quick decision. Using the elemental powers of the wind I forced the box closer to my hands just enough to snatch it up.
However, in that moment I lost a few seconds.
I tried to recover using some of the same wind to cushion my fall, but it didn't fully work. Grabbing hold of the box I covered my face with my arms.
I hit the rock hard. The wind had slowed me down a bit but I could feel a stinging pain all throughout my body.
I laid there unable to move. My head felt like it was spinning and throbbing at the same time. For a moment I couldn't even remember what had happened.
My mind had blanked and my vision blackened. It was only for a few seconds but it was enough to confuse me.
When my vision came too again all I could see was grey.
For a second I thought my vision had disappeared but after laying there staring for a few minutes I realized how grainy and textured the grey was. Then I started to notice the small rocks adorning the grey.
However, there was no time to worry about where I was because the moment I gained some consciousness the pain rippled right back through me.
A scream left my lips the pain too great.
Everything hurt so so bad. I could feel a sharp pain in one of my arms. My face had been protected but it still felt some of the impact.
Tears swelled up in the corner of my eyes and my hands finally let go of the box. My fingers brushed against the ground beneath me and I tried to summon some strength to push myself up.
My hands were shaky and I was biting back anymore sobs as I tried to move. My body was not cooperating. My arms didn't budge. The strength had been sucked from them and all that remained was agony.
I had managed to lift myself up a bit before my arms gave out and I hit the ground again. Pain erupted once more and I squeezed my eyes shut.
God damnit!
Everything... hurt so bad...
I couldn't even describe what I was feeling. It was a type of pain I had never felt. I couldn't even imagine the pain I'd be in had I not winded my fall a bit.
There was no way I was going to be able to get up yet. So with that in mind I decided to just lay there.
I'm not sure how much time had passed as I laid here on the cold hard ground. The pain subsided a bit but in specific places it was still ever present. For example, my arm hadn't stopped throbbing.
I felt like a bit of my strength had returned and decided to try my luck again. Getting a grip on the rocks I used it to help push myself up off the ground. My arms were still shaky but I was able to gather a bit more strength after resting. Slowly I pushed myself upward.
When my body was finally sitting up I shuffled myself toward one of the walls and leaned back for some more support. I could finally see my surroundings now that I wasn't laying face first on the floor.
The grey rocky surface I had seen was a cave. It seemed that I had fallen into one of the ones below the cliff. The ledge was big enough that my body was able to hit it without falling off the side.
The box that I had been chasing down laid right where my body had just been.
I let out a breath of relief at the sight. However, that breath shot pain right back through and I gripped my chest where the pain had occurred.
Fuck...!
That hurt...
I took in another breath only to feel another small quick pain.
I hadn't realized it earlier but breathing hurt a bit.
Finally, I decided to look down at myself to assess the damage.
My clock was covered in dirt and pieces of it were ripped. I think it helped sustain the fall a bit. There was a bit of red on the cloak and my stomach dropped at the sight.
I shrugged the cloak off revealing some of myself. I could see some skin now. Some of my clothes were torn specifically the areas in which the cloak did not hide.
There was some blood on my arm and a bruise looked to be forming along with some scratches.
It was hard to see anything else as part of the cloak was still draped over me.
But I didn't need to see to feel something else was not right. At least I had gotten what we came for.
My eyes glanced back over at the box on the ground.
